Deadline is coming up, I can't believe how even the antelope draw odds have changed. What use to take us 3pts to draw is now over 10 pts. Forget the red desert areas. I drool over the resident odds, whether MT, WY, or Idaho. These states take care of their residents and the non resident hunting opportunities are not only getting expense but odds are slowly putting an end to it.
-
You can thank technology, sportsman & outdoor channels, hunting podcasts, OnX and other mapping software, Go-Hunt and all the other same kinds of services, tag services that apply for you, and a bunch of other things that have spoon-fed people that would have never done the work themselves. If you used to do all your own research and plan your own hunts then you have seen everything go in the toilet the last 5 years as all of these things have evolved. Everyone is trying to make a buck off of the industry and in the end it will be its demise.
-
WY has also seen some pretty drastic reduction in antelope tags in many areas due to herd sizes/winter kill, etc. My old unit there doesn't even have the tag I used to get every other year or so. Obviously this is in addition to more people applying.
-
Yea those Idaho pronghorn odds are great for residents, anywhere from .1-3% for a rifle buck tag

Sure are. Drew my first year applying and I will probably never draw again :chuckle: :chuckle: :'(

We hunted antelope in 2018 in 17 and it was unreal. We drew 3 tags each for 5 of us and filled them in 36 hours. We drew again in 21 but only buck tags for 17 and each had a doe tag for 15. It was slim pickings for a few reasons. Biggest reason was the drastic cut in state land and landowner access. 17 is a huge unit and most of the areas you can hunt are small enough you can see the whole plot from the road. The other reason was the drought. Every 5-8 years the weather stays dry which dry's up the watering holes and once water has receded past a certain point a dormant gnat is exposed which hatches. When the pronghorn and white tail go to water the gnat flies into their ear canal and kills the animal inside of 48 hours. Once rancher we talked to removed 3 dozen animals from his creek bottom area because of this and we walked past a ton of bones left in the wake of the gnat. We filled our 6 of 10 tags. 5 bucks in 17. I was fortunate enough to have private property to hunt in 15 and got lucky to fill my doe tag while mule deer doe hunting. The draw odds will go up in a few years once the kill recovery takes place providing no drought takes place again.
-
Wonder how much creep the tag cuts will add to point creep. Hoping to cash antelope points with my sons this year & we have a 1 point buffer for the 100% line of last years draw odds in the unit we’re applying for.😬
-
We hunted 42 for buck and 43 for does in 2020
we hunted does hard for 4 days. Only took 1 shot each at a doe. filled 2 tags and left 2 tags unfilled. very few animals :'(
We then hunted 2 days for bucks. 1 shot opportunity equaled 1 punched tags and 1 tag unfilled. we did pass on a chip shot on yearling buck
43 had 1,300 tags in 2020. this year they have 375 :yike:
42 had 850 tags in 2020. this year they have 250
the past couple years have been rough for antelope
Good luck to those that apply. I don't think there will be point creep this year. It is gonna leap up a couple points for some units :bash:
-
Just put in for Deer and Antelope today and hopefully will draw one of them or both.
-
I wonder if gas prices are going to level any of this "point leap" out. COVID put more people in the field. $5 a gallon might reset things a little.
I have to agree with the comment regarding everyone and their dog making a living by telling us all how to draw hunts in other states; it's making every tag an OIL tag...
-
I don't think the impact will be too much I'm sorry to say. Tags are getting tougher and tougher to draw across the west, Wyoming antelope used to much easier.
-

That is so true.
Then again, I'm probably a part of the problem :chuckle:
-
I’m hoping to draw G this year and if I do I will consider it a OIL hunt. Unless I become a resident.

How many point s do you have?

8 points in the special draw.

Should be a good year. A few of those winter range bucks are epic and roaming the hills somewhere!
-
We applied for w deer for the first time this year after buy points last couple. Also put in for an antelope doe
-
I’m getting too used to seeing Not Successful from WY… :bash:
-
I’m planning to put in for a whitetail hunt east of the bighorns but idk I have heard they lost half the population to blue tongue.. not sure how many tags will get cut if any?

In for deer and lopes.

Now it is the LOOOONG 3 week wait for results.
I have a 7% chance of getting lucky this year :yike:

How do you know it's 7%? Is that last year's odds? I'm in for a type 1 deer license with 5.5 points. But no idea what our odds are. Hopefully 100%. :chuckle:

:sry:
yes, technically going off last few years odds for random draw antelope. i drew 2 years ago and only have 1 point
Tag #'s were reduced drastically the last 2 years

Oh I see, hoping for a random. The license I applied for is new this year and only has 25 tags so there's not even any past draw history to go by. 15 more days to wait isn't going to be easy. :bash:
-
Long shot on the deer tag. Hopefully draw the lope tag. Put in with 2 more points then required last year. But lost 50 tags I believe.
-
We should be guaranteed lope tags. But with this cheap fuel everybody may be putting in this year!!
-
We should find out this week, I hope they post a day or two early.

we thought we were guaranteed last year but our unit shot 3 full points :chuckle: :'(
-
2 years ago my antelope tag jumped 2 points and I missed it, last year the deer tag I wanted jumped 2.5 points and pissed it and this year the elk tag I wanted jumped 2.5 points and got it (in the random) very lucky, Wyoming is not predictable

I’m one of those guys, buy points ever year have never applied… can’t decide when I’ll jump in.
Good luck to all of you.

May want to think of moving sooner than later...lot of movement for welfare handouts by the Wyoming Outfitters. There's a chance your points will be worth 75% less for LE units if they go 90/10 R/NR split...with 50% of that 10 being reserved only for outfitted clients.
-
I believe the original date was 16 Jun but I just got this when I was on the site checking some stuff.
-
Holy *censored* Batman :tung:
That sounds great. Hoping to draw an antelope buck tag but a few Antelope doe tags would be good too, that way I could do a two week fly fishing/ doe antelope hunt.

That is my thought as well. I have been waiting out the downturn for antelope in the unit I hunt but will be putting in for hunts I want to draw for all species next year and every year after that.
-
SWEEEEEETTTTT!!!!!!
Glad they are posting early, at least I know I'll get some results from one state tomorrow.
-
Good deal . Got drawn for Wyoming elk tag but I’m be greedy and want antelope also🤪
-
Got my email from the WGFD. Unsuccessful for my deer license. :bash:
-
Going to Wyoming. 11 antelope points gone
-
Not selected for me.
-
Not selected for deer and pronghorn (Bucks and Does) :bash:
-
Heading to G this year….
-
Heading to G this year….
Congrats, with all the moisture this year, there will be a few giants killed, hopefully you can find one.
-
No go for me in Region G. 8 points was not enough in the special.
-
Glad I was wrong about the point creep. I get to chase big Bucks in the high country!
-
Point creep was less than expected this year.
-
It crept some if I didn’t draw with 8. Pretty sure 8 was 100% draw last year.
-
Unit 63 antelope for me, plus a couple doe/fawn licenses.
-
Got our Antelope tags we wanted. 9 points
-
Unit 78 buck antelope for my dad and I. Can't wait to go.
-
Unsuccessful for me and my son. :o
My brother is a resident and this is the first year he was Unsuccessful as well for deer & angelope.
-

barely missed....
-
9% with 8 in the Special. Brutal!
Definitely a unique circumstance where a resident can go to the gas station and pick one up….
-
My hunting pard did draw a random….pretty lucky.
-
We can buy points starting July 1 correct
-

Unsuccessful for me :'(

Denied as expected.

6 points and bought the special tag to ensure better than 100% draw (based on last year) :yike: unsuccessfull :yike: LOL. Whoa it's gonna get ugly in the next few years. Never thought a good antelope tag will be a 10 plus year process now. I bet average tags (under 50% public land) will take over 4 years to draw. Makes you wanna be a resident for sure. I think Idaho and Montana are becoming the same. More worried I will never find a decent unit for my 13 elk points.
-
Just wait until the 90/10 with 50% of the ten going to outfitters.

the unit we drew was guaranteed at 8 points last year. We had 9 this year and ended up have 60% draw odds. The deer unit went from an 8 point unit 2 years ago to 50%with 12 this year. Everybody is cashing in with the scare of the 90/10 happening for deer elk and Antelope too.
-
Didn't draw my buck antelope tag but drew two doe antelope tags :IBCOOL: so meat in the freezer for sure.
-
Unit 78 buck antelope for my dad and I. Can't wait to go.
Had this last year let me know if you want info

Saved me some gas money! :chuckle: No go for Deer & Antelope. Good hunting to those that drew. Going to miss the beauty of the cowboy state this yr!
-
The wife and I are headed to wyoming to hunt whitetail the week before thanksgiving again on our tradition of going every other year to wyoming for a out of state deer hunt. Should be a ton of fun.
-
Back for the 2nd time in unit 78 for Antelope
-
Got my buck antelope, but no doe tags, can't wait.
-
Back for the 2nd time in unit 78 for Antelope
I drew 2 doe antelope there for this year. Will hunt them in Aug and do some fishing. I could let you know if I see any good bucks
-
77 antelope went from 6 1/2 points 100% draw last year to 9 this year. I figured our 8 pts would draw for sure.😩
-
We drew our antelope buck tags but struck out on doe tags.

I'll definitely take some info. Thanks.

Congrats to all who drew and have a financial plan together for fuel expenditures!
We will need one this year, as we are headed back to the NE corner for buck deer! Looking forward to it, it’s always a blast with our group.
-
Didn’t draw unit 1 antelope. That was a 100% draw, not anymore I guess.
-
Nothing for us! I thought my son would draw for sure with his points but not so!!! Missed elk in a major fluke too!!!😤
-

Yep our party got hosed on elk as well. Unit said it took 11 special points to draw 100%, we had 12 points in the special and did not draw. 😡

I wouldn't say I got hosed, but I missed out on my elk tag. I had one point cushion, it wasn't quite enough. But, it helps a little now that I have a mule deer tag.

No way I would want a wyo tag this year. Brutal winters and drought. 200” deer will be 160.
That’s what I’m telling myself to make the pain go away. :chuckle:

My friends who lives in wyoming were saying they are getting a lot of rain just like we are. They did lose a ton of whitetail last year though..

4 antelope buck tags for our group. Here we go!!!
-
Consolation prize, we have 10 deer tags in our party of four. So we get lots of venison and some antlers too boot! Oh and of course some great camping!
