Ok guys, what can you tell me about the Marlin 25-06 XL7?

i dont know to much about marlin but I do know that the 25-06 remington is a great caliber. I would save a few more bucks and buy a 700 but I am sure there is nothing wrong with the marlin.

Before you buy the Marlin, take a look at Howa, or Remington... I am sure the Marlin is a good gun, but I know the others, and you will not regret at least looking.

I picked up an XL7 in .270 about a month ago. Only four trips to the range so far but I am very happy with it already. It has a smooth action and shoots consistent groups. I ordered mine with the synthetic stock (Marlin now advertises the XL7 with a walnut stock but I dont know if they are available yet) and it is one of the lightest rifles I have owned. Balances well in the hands too, not front heavy like some lightweight stocks can be. I was looking for something light that I could backpack with for the high buck season and I think this one will do nicely. I put an FX-II 4x33 on top and I was out the door, ready for September, for under $600. When I was shopping around for it, the few shops that did carry the XL7 only had it in 30-06. If you want it in 25-06 then plan on having it special ordered.

i'd spend 400 or so on a howa or a vanguard. or something used. you can do pretty damn good with $400 for a used rifle.
marlin's a marlin probably...decent at best.

How long has Marlin been putting out bolt guns anyway? When I hear someone talking about Marlin I assume they are talking about a lever action. When I'm looking to buy a new bolt action I look at companys who are known for them. Same with levers. If I'm just looking to buy a new gun, say a different caliber, but I havnt decided on bolt, lever, etc. I will check out companys that make or have made just about everything. Like Ruger. I'f you buy a Marlin I'm sure it will work just fine. Good luck and let us know how it shoots.

Marlin has only been making bolt centerfire rifles for a couple of years. It was something that was under development before they were bought by Remington.

I've read some great reviews on the Marlin bolt gun, and wouldn't hesitate to buy one. Love to see them come out with a short action. I'm not a big fan of the .25-06... I have had an H&R Ultra for years and have never even fired it (might try it out long range on coyotes one day), but my dad has a Stevens 200 in .25-06 and loves it.

If I were looking right now I'd look hard at Savage,they have always been known for economy and out of the box accuracy but recently they have improved the triggers,the stock bedding and even made that barrel nut look better.Tim

If the price is right I think the Marlin would be fine.... especially if you like the fit and feel. Savage also makes a good bolt with a great trigger.
