Title: #30lb Hatchery King
Post by: Flaming Antler Outdoors on June 18, 2022, 08:05:00 AM
I got this beauty fishing the south sound. I am 6'2 250lbs and this fish still looks pretty good in the pics.  Pulled right off the down rigger and then sat there for a second while i reeled down, then he figured he was hooked.  He ran 3x and I began to think I had a seal but it never came up. Got it in the net and was trying to be so careful knowing it was a wild but wow it was a hatchery. My buddy and I have caught a ton of kings but this is one of my top 4. A 5 yr hatchery fish is probably pretty rare.

Very nice!

There is a steady trickle of big fish reports coming in this year, hopefully the trend holds true.

Man! That a great fish! When I had my boat, I always wanted a fish that hit 20lbs. Came close but never hit the mark. Congrats on your 30!!!

Those will put your gear to the test! First and last 30 I caught was in '78 at Point No Point on a Wright McGill Eagle Claw 8 1/2' rod with a Winona reel, loved that Winona! What stage of the tide did you get this one? Always fished the ebb at the Point.

Beauty! Don't see too many of those in the sound anymore. Hope a few more of those filter through over the summer!

Great to see such a wonderful fish being caught by a sportsman. Feel some lament remembering the days when a 30lb king was very common. Hopefully some good genes have been passed along in this year's run. Getting anxious as the wife finds me at times sitting in the trailered boat getting things ready that never weren"t. Thanks for the post and pic.

Nice fish! I had one up to the boat 3 times while mouching the southern tip of Vashon about 30 years ago...I wanted to net it myself, but let my ex wife do it. I regret marrying her!   :bash:
