I have an Escort Magnum PS and it came with 4 different chokes. I have an IC , FULL, MOD, and one that says LEAD SHOT ONLY .665. Which one would be an ideal choke and what sho can I use??
-
For like coyotes? :dunno:
I'd use a full choke with T shot. Or any other big shot size, just make sure its not a steel load. :bdid:
-
Yeah for coyotes. Sorry for not specifying.
What is the T shot? Sorry, but I'm new to this.
-
Here is a good coyote shotgun load.

T shot is a little bigger than BBB but no quite as big as the smaller buck shot sizes. I guess small buck shot would work too.
-
I have used BB shot with a modified choke. I wouldn't recommend anything tighter than modified with the shot sizes larger than BB. But you really don't know until you pattern your shotgun with different loads and different chokes to see what does best at the ranges you expect to shoot.

Even with lead?

With lead shot up to about BB's I think you're ok using a full choke. Bigger stuff like #4 buck would probably shoot better (tighter) through a less restrictive choke. But like I said you won't know without patterning your gun. They all shoot different.
-
Guess that would make sense because a tight choke might damage the shot and cause the patterns to go bad. Can't hurt to try though. 8)

So do you guys think an aftermarket choke would work with my shotgun?
-
Took a guy up to a neighboring ranch in Stevens Co. to call in a turkey for him last week, just happened that on the first set this coyote came in. A 10 ga with #4 shot and a Rhino turkey choke worked pretty good at 17 yrds. I usually don't shoot coyotes this time of year but the rancher wanted to keep his barns cats and they were disappearing at a rather fast rate. :chuckle:
-
I shoot #4 buck outta asuper turkey full from my rem. 870 this shotgun has an aftermarket barrel thats 20" with rifle sights. this combo is like coyote cancer out to about 45 yards. I'd like to try a pattern master choke tube but there to damned expensive.

Here's a pretty good article on patterning shotguns for coyote hunting.

I use oo buck and a primos deaddog tube, we have made kills to about 65 yards but it will kill to 80-85 I think , just no opps past that range yet.
-
I use a full in my 870 and it patterns F and T shot really well. I still need to shot a yote with it though.
-
I use a Mossberg 935 with a dead coyote choke and heavy B, I have patterned it to 50 yds.
