I know they are pretty well known, but is their service usually *****?
I ordered two rotors and a fan blade, the rotors said they would ship immediately. One rotor shipped, then crickets. 10 days later I get on their live chat and they have no idea when it will ship, drop shipping from the MFR. So, I cancel the fan blade and second rotor as everyone and their brother seems to have them in stock.
Two days later, the fan blade is cancelled but the rotor still shows as they are going to ship it to me. I get on chat again and no new information, they say it may take a week to confirm it's cancelled or it may ship, they have zero information.
Meanwhile I ordered it from somewhere else and it will be here today, don't want an extra rotor laying around so I might have to call my card company and get a new number so that order won't go through.
Frustrating, they had decent prices and shipping, but is this why? I would be interested to hear if this is par for the course, I certainly won't be tempted to order from them again.
I use Rock Auto a bunch but man, their shipping charges have been horrible lately.

I've been buying parts from Summit Racing since the 80's. And I mean A LOT of parts. From drag cars to hot rods to 4x4 truck parts I've spent thousands upon thousands with them. I have only once had a problem with them shipping and it wasn't their fault. It was the vendor they were selling from as a third party. But they got on the horn and pressured the company to get my parts to me. Parts were still late, but I still got them.
Summit is a fantastic company, but there still might be an occasional hiccup. Especially given all the pitfalls with parts availability and shipping companies dropping the ball. Not saying they can't be to blame, but sometimes any company can drop the ball too.

unfortunately i think this is becoming more common with these parts suppliers. They are most likely caught up in shipping games that are happening. The inventories are not reflecting reality and stuff is delayed or cancelled.. i have pretty much given up on these cheap suppliers and am dealing local at the stores so i know when stuff will arrive. sucks to plan a time for repair, take down something only to find parts dont arrive! i have had same situation with Tasca parts, parts geek and rock auto..

Dang! Sorry man. Its frustrating waiting on parts!!
I have had good luck with them and still buy quite a bit from Summit. Hopefully this is just an isolated incident and not a developing trend.

Feels awfully bait and switch to me. Sure, rotors are in stock go ahead and place an order. Whoops, looks like they weren't in stock, have no idea when they will be and we can't give you your money back.
I get the supply chain issues, but lying about stock status and keeping my money is all in their court.
Right now their website is saying they will ship tomorrow if you order them.

That doesn’t sound legal either. You might get your credit card company's fraud department involved. A call from them will usually motivate a seller to ship or refund. They really don’t want to get on the credit card company’s bad boy list.

Yeah, that was my thought as well. I'll give them until tomorrow to sort it out and then let Chase deal with it. I originally thought they only charged me for the one rotor that shipped but after looking again I got charged for both rotors two weeks ago now.

Rather than an issue with Summit, it's probably issues with parts shortages that are plaguing the car bizz these days. Can't tell you how many backorder parts I have to deal with every stinkin day.
-
Ordered tons of stuff this last year from Sunnit. Never had an issue. But, it is getting harder and harder to find in stock parts for certain vehicles. I use place in Tenino for a bunch of my oem camaro parts and even they are running into issues of whether it'll be there or not.

In Stock means Mfg is telling Distributor they can dropship immediately. But Mfg is behind on updating or has wrong number in inventory snafu's so Distributor left hanging. On low volume parts ghost inventory can be vicious circle - computer says 3 in stock, never re-orders, sales keeps selling those 3 but they never ship because they are ghost inventory.
-
I can't speak to Summit but it seems like many online vendors don't actually have inventory, they just place orders to drop ship from the manufacturer or wholesaler.
I will never order from Optics Planet again, they just blatantly lie about availability and it's up to you to follow up to see if the item is actually available.
If we're talking brake rotors, they're incredibly heavy to ship. Wouldn't surprise me if they are drop shipping from someplace else.
-
You're right, it did have the Optics Planet feel to it except Summit charged me right away and I think OP only charges you when it ships.
My loot is still locked up, contacted them again today and won't refund and have no ship date.
-
Oh man I hope they don't go the way of Optics Planet...that'll be another place I refuse to do business with. But I'll be watching this thread for updates.

Stein, I have a 17" and 18 " Flex a lite fans I don't need. Also a 16" fiberglass.
Just haven't got them on Craigslist yet.

I feel good my new 9" from Quick Performance is only taking 8 weeks LOL. But my hydraulic roller cam etc is going on 3 months. Oh ya, my "CAN" silencer that was suppose to take 90 days because of the feds new process is going on 7 months. Bidenomics? Hopefully the southern border with it's over 1 million who crossed can get a job here and help out with our supply and shipping issues.

I walked into Delta cams in Tacoma last week, left fifteen minutes later with cam and lifters in hand :dunno: only took that long as I wandered around looking at pictures of race cars and trucks all along the walls of the building. No complaints against summit from me, but jegs on the other hand ..... I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire
