Hello everyone, newbie here. I have a Remington Model 700 AS/BDL chambered for the 300 Weatherby cartridge. Riding on top is a Leupold Golden Ring Vari-Xlll 3.5x10, Adjustable Objective, w/Multicoat 4 scope. I bought this rig in 1994 with the intention of hunting elk. After buying it I took it to a range and sighted it in at 300 yds with 16 rounds. The last four rounds were in a 3" group. After returning home I thoroughly cleaned it and put it in the Boyt case I bought for it and that's where it been ever since. The reason is a friend talked me into going bow hunting with him in which I subsequently got hooked on. I always felt guilty about not using this rifle and figured that one day I would but that day never came. So I'm thinking about selling it but am at a loss as to what this setup is worth.
Here is the only thing I could find on the web but this guys price does not seem realistic to me.

Can anyone give me a realistic idea of what a fair price might be. Everything is as new. Also, I don't want to sell it to just anybody as there are some out there that, well just shouldn't own a gun. What should I do about screening an individual.
Thanks in advance for your input.

as far as the price goes...alls you can do is look around the web as see what people are paying for them. i might consider the caliber some, but i wouldn't be too overly concerned. the value of the scope should be pretty easy to come up with....
as far as where to look...
gunbroker.com
gunsamerica.com
24hourcampfire.com
to name a few.
as far as screening some folks want a drivers license only....some ask to be shown a cpl permit or a membership card to washington arms collectors. with selling guns most of the time you are just taking your chances...make out a bill of sale so you're covered.

Thank you Jackelope, yeah, I realize the caliber is not the most appealing as it is an expensive cartridge. Would you recommend selling the scope separate or will that matter a whole lot?
The link I provided is from one of the web sites you suggested so maybe the price they're asking is not unrealistic then. Wow!
Thanks again
