i think im staying on the wetside this weekend and id like to try ratting. ive got a rattle bag. but i dunno the specifics of ratting. should it be short bursts or an ongoing batttle?
-
short bursts IMO...maybe 30 seconds or so, wait 10-15 minutes, try again...throw in a grunt hear and there.
the bunk thing about a rattle bag is not being able to rake some brush with it. thrash some brush while you're at it. i like using the real thing personally.
have you ever seen footage of bucks sparring? you're just trying to recreate that noise.
-
short and sweet! Buck fights are rapid. Most successful rattles happen within the first 3 minutes. I like real antlers not the bag.
-
i havent cut the antlers off of my skull from last year yet. what do you guys thinkg about the fake rattling antlers you can buy at sportsmans wherehouse and such

I usually grunt call two or three times. wait a couple of minutes. Then I'll slam then together and really make a racket for about 30 to 45 seconds. Then get ready. Keep an eye down wind as alot of bigger bucks will circle down wind first. I love rattling and it works really well pre rut and after the peak of the rut. Not so much during the peak but still worth a try.
