Title: Machine shop for a 2 stroke?

Never gave any sign of impending doom, just wound down like I had eased up on the throttle then conked out. Eventually got it started again but it sounded like it was full of rocks. Good thing I had run upriver from the launch and had a kicker!

Long story short, I lost the #1 piston due to a stuck ring. Tore the motor down and everything aside from that cylinder and the head is in remarkably good shape (guess the previous owner was being honest about the boat never seeing the salt). Looks rebuildable! All the parts I need are readily available, as long as I can get the block checked over.

Next order of business, I learned today that there aren't many machine shops that do work on outboard blocks. I'm just needing a normal bore/hone and probably surface the block deck. Does anyone know of anywhere on the westside that does 2 stroke engine machining?

The ‘Prop Shop’ up North used to do the them. Or the shop connected to them.

Post by: BigGoonTuna on September 03, 2022, 04:16:34 PM: Will have to try Johnson machine next week, they did a Toyota engine for me ages ago. Toms outboard also told me to try there, tried calling yesterday and nobody picked up. Figure they must have got an early start on the long weekend.

Post by: BigGoonTuna on September 18, 2022, 10:50:50 AM: Well a little update, Johnson’s doesn’t do that kind of work but they were able to refer me to a local guy that does. Supposedly he does all the outboard bore work for the local shops.

He charges $50 a hole, got my block back in 4 days for $150, even got me info for a good parts supplier for my engine internals. Only downside is that boring is really all he seems to do, so waiting on a motorcycle shop to drill or the 2 broken exhaust bolts that I couldn’t even remove with the welder…
