Title: Keeping flies and bees off your meat in backcountry??
Post by: trophyhunt on September 08, 2022, 12:29:11 PM: Hear stories of people using pepper, but I am curious what the best way is to keep the bees, and flies away from your elk meat while processing it in the backcountry? Early elk season is known for the black flies and bees, making processing tough at times, and then when it's hanging with a bag over it, keeping the flies from laying eggs on the bags. Looking for something that works, and easy to pack in?? Thanks guys.

Yes
I carry a pre loaded little spray bottle in my pack..
Just add water. Has worked great in the lower 48 and we used it in AK for our Caribou and did the trick..and the bugs up there are no joke..

Post by: GOcougsHunter on September 08, 2022, 12:55:15 PM: While it won't solve your problem entirely, I make sure that when dressing out early season animals, I don't use a gutless method. take the guts and spread them out nearby. The bees, mosquitos, and flies will focus on the gut pile instead of your work area. You will still get a few bothering you, but it does cut down the number of bugs.

If you sing the whole time it will keep them away. Usually anything from one of the boy bands work but Bye Bye Bye always works.

Post by: buckcanyonlodge on September 08, 2022, 01:28:46 PM: Pack a can of Pam...the cooking spray. I use it and the flies and bees stay away once you spray the whole carcass......I used to have problems with clients deer in the heat until I started using PAM.
