Title: Fishing Guide Riffe lake
Post by: huntnfmly on September 17, 2022, 11:28:07 AM
Hey Guys a few months ago I found info on guided trips on riffe lake
We were emailing back and forth and I’ve lost all the info
I seen them on Northwest Fishing Report it was for Kokanee and was planning on taking daughters and grandson
Has anyone got any insight to who it might have been or info on other guides?
Thanks in advance

It's Scott Crawford of Chrome Inc.  looks like he is on FB, I don't have account.  I saw the episode and he is legit.  I've fished there for years and was surprised to see guys starting to guide there.  There is another guy named Clancy's guide service but I don't have any experience or insight with him.  If you are looking for constant action for kids Riffe is great spot for it.

@metalhead I assume the OP just assumed they are Koks not knowing Riffe is kings and silvers..  The guide is not advertising Koks fishing he definitely is legit

If you have a boat its a pretty easy fishery. Nice silvers, a few chinook, and plenty of triploids also!

There are a lot of guides that have been fishing it the last few years. I hope they arent charging the same as they do for the rivers.

FWIW Clancys Guide Service was great out on the Columbia the one time I went with them.

 :yeah:

Limits are fairly easy if you have a boat.
My go to for Riffe is a Double Whammy (remove the hooks the come with them and put on red Kamakatsus) trail hook, put a 1/3 nightcrawler threaded up the shank with the tail free. On the upper hook pink Power Bait Maggets.

2013, my son and I watched a 12 year old kid land a 25 lb. Blackmouth, Fishing from the bank on the rocks! We stopped fishing just to watch. you could tell he had something huge on. The kid was a stud fisherman, he picked up his net, realized it would not fit in has net, and through the net up the bank. He landed it by himself, guiding it between a couple big rocks. He held it up and it looked friggin huge next to his skinny body.

Clancy's guide service is one of the great guides of WA.  Can't go wrong with him.

I have caught a ton of Silvers, a lot of trout and Small Mouth there. I Have never hooked a Blackmouth there myself. I Have seen quite a few at the cleaning station. That 25 pounder was the biggest I have seen though.

Those large fish are adult spring chinook or winter Steelhead that are transported above Cowlitz falls dam and then pass over the dam when they spill.

I contacted Karen at chrome inc. and are going to book a trip to Riffe once hunting season is over and Riffe level comes up Scott doesn’t think he’ll be able to launch there until then
Have a great season everyone

You can launch there right now. Launching hasn't been an issue at Riffe this year.

Launch looks great. Half dozen trailers in the launch.
Might try Rip Some Lips guide service. He's on the hill before you drop down to Barrier dam and has a good reputation.

Launch gate now locked on east end. Lake is about as low as I have ever seen it.

Why the draw down?

They use to do a big draw down in the fall, but is was usually still accessible at Mossy Rock Park  :dunno:

They cant fill the lake to full pool anymore. I think its 30 feet lower than normal to start with so it comes down a lot faster. There hasnt been any rain to speak of for months so that doesnt help. Plus I think they have to keep flows at 3500 minimum now so they cant decrease flows to conserve water. It was quite a bit lower a couple years ago. Will probably continue to drop for the next month or 2 until inflows start filling it up again.

Mossy ramp may close too the way its going.

Have they not fixed the dam yet?
I was under the impression they were supposed to fix it back in 2017  :dunno:

Last I heard They did not plan on spending the money to fix it anytime soon. They lowered it to a level that there was no risk and figured that was a better option than dumping money into it for now. If this is the case hopefully they plan on extending the launches.

That sucks!
And it takes out the east ramp for 1/2 the year  :bash:

The ramp closed signs were put out this morning. It’s dropping pretty steadily. Fishing has been good though!
