Anyone have an idea of how the duck population in the tri cities is doing? My buddy and I are hunting McNary on opening weekend.
-
If you have a good pick you might do ok. Bring your sunscreen and speedo, no waders required with temperatures in mid 70’s.

The opener at McNary has been pretty good for most blinds. Good luck, post up pictures.

Yeah, we had blind 17 for the opener last year and it was a pretty good hunt. We didn't limit out, but we got pretty close.
Thanks for the mosquito tip.
I'll try to give a report by the end of it!

I'm glad I the Thermacell this morning at Toppenish. Got eaten alive after I shut it off to pack up.

anybody seeing ducks from the north yet? Any divers around?
-
Duck reports have been promising. We have taken a few. Seems to be a steady steam of snows flying this week. We are going out in the storm Friday evening and Saturday, hope we see a few birds.

I have been seeing waves of birds all week flying over NW Washington. The bays are starting to load up with migrators. Lots of snows, cacklers, lessers, sea ducks and puddle ducks in the area.
-
Two limits this morning all spoke Canadian.

wow, I guess I'm behind schedule! Waiting for this boat blind to be finished up...

I can confirm this! Would’ve had limits a half hour earlier if I hit some better shots..

Lots of swans just started to show up today around Conway/Fir Island. Hadn't seen any around and then- BAM- at least a couple hundred.

Nice! Has anyone been to Samish Unit recently? I'm looking at going tomorrow, but I've heard there isn't much standing water yet.
-
Also, the update on my opener hunt was the conditions were absolutely horrible for duck hunting. Clear skies and above 70. Tons of snow geese East of the refuge, but they mostly steered clear of the slough.
Most people left by around 10 AM. We were lucky to get 3 ducks.
-
Just watched tons of geese failing out of the sky into a corn field and one of my water spots with a black out. People around here are gonna throw a smack down tomorrow!
-
That's about how hunt went today! Ducks weren't weary at all. Good luck if you go tomorrow!

Anyone been out the last few days? I'm hoping to get out tomorrow and Thursday, but was curious about ice. The slow moving shallow stuff seemed frozen over between Burbank and wallula on Saturday.
