Title: hows the smoky elk hunting?
Post by: mendozer on October 20, 2022, 11:03:41 PM
I had to forego September bow season as I needed to paint the house and the sunny weekends claimed me. I'm waiting for late season now but I'm curious how everyone's been doing for elk or deer with the smoke. Part of me thinks it would be better as maybe the animals can't smell humans as well, but also I don't know what a prey animal does in these environments. In the rain they're on the move because they can't see or hear as well right? maybe the same for smoke?

I think the sunny and dry weather has played a much larger role in animal behavior recently than the smoke.

Smoke showed up after muzzleloader season for me, so I’m not sure.

Deer sightings in the smoke yesterday for me were minimal. Part of that was probably the fog that was making it hard to see far. You know the smoke does make that fog thicker and hang around. Did see a big herd of elk moving around, undeterred.

Hoping todays rain changes things.
