Rut is dwindling down in all the area's I'm watching..
It was good from the 25th till the 5th. Some bucks still cruising but they are switching to feed get fat mode. :twocents:

I am finding more rubs but the bucks I am finding are by themselves. I have passed on a few studs, and only one was in full blown rut.
In my very limited experience with blacktails, if there is a fawn in the group, I wouldn't spend very much time sitting on them at this point.

GMU 418 Quality Buck. Im fairly inexperienced as well. Spend last weekend up there and got into 6 does all in the same area of old growth timber
,but they all had yearlings with them. Heard some people say it wont matter, bucks will be around. Heard others say dont waste your time on it.

A few years ago I was backpacking up the beach on the coast in the early summer and saw two deer running toward me. I expected them to spook and run up the bank but to my surprise they ran within 5 yards of me. It was apparent the first was running from the second. It was also apparent the first was a yearling and the second was a very pregnant doe. I deduced the doe was about to drop and was running last year's fawn off. So I would suspect a buck wouldn't care much about last years fawn this time of year.
As a side note that was pretty brutal to see. The yearling was bleeding (nothing major, just visible) and was super confused, it kept trying to cozy up to mom just to get kicked and bit.
