Title: Sheet water Decoy Spread
Post by: salt n sage90 on January 04, 2023, 09:16:15 AM
I've always been sorta willy nillie with my decoy spreads.
What do you guys do?

Try to match what you see the birds doing in your spot or the area around. If the birds are spread out and in small groups then use a smaller spread. If they are congregated then go with the big spread. Another thing you might notice this time of year with mallards specifically is that they will be pairing drakes and hens. Even when congregated, within the flock you can see pairs together or a couple drakes dogging a hen.

Eight to 10 fully flocked goose floaters. Eight to 10 mixed puddlers. Dozen Dive Bomb mallard/pintail socks (optional). Two water-keel GW teal jerk cord. Carefully camouflaged layout blind or grassed/covered Aquapod, depending on the water depth. Minimal calling; emphasis on the whistle

Mallards paired and all your wigeon in one tight group along shore or in the grass.
