Title: Lever Action 30-30 with Stainless Threaded Barrel
Post by: pickardjw on January 04, 2023, 10:56:44 AM
Is anyone aware of options when it comes to a lever action 30-30 with stainless components and threaded barrel?

Always wanted a lever action but it seems like slim pickings in 30-30 with a stainless, threaded barrel. Needs to be that caliber, stainless and threaded so I can run my in-jail suppressor. Looks like the Marlin 336XLR is an option but I don't understand why the mag tube is so short on it...Would like to use for calling bears on the wetside, maybe other predator hunting as well.

Anyways, looking for suggestions.

By the time you cut it down to a reasonable length for a can,  the mag tube will not be that long.  However XLRs bring such a premium I would hesitate to cut one up.

Maybe one of these.  Not stainless, but also not $2500.

I have an ugly Glenfield 30-30 with pressed wood and BB-gun sights and am considering giving it this treatment.

Ahh I have seen a few of the uber-tactical mossbergs but never really checked out their other offerings. Thanks!

Maybe check out the Henry X models?

I think I'd rather have stainless components and pay to have the barrel threaded vs buying blued components with a threaded barrel that I'd have to send off to be cerakoted. I assume one could get most of the metal components cerakoted but not really sure.

I bought a stainless Remington 700 in the 90's when everyone, including me at the time, thought they were cool.  I took it on a week long hunt and it rained most of the time.  A day or so in I found out my safety wouldn't come off, I had to hit the safety with a stick and rock in order to get it onto "fire".  After that, I carried it chambered with bolt in the up position.  Inside the trigger works was a blued retainer clip that rusted, everything else was stainless and fine but that blued retainer clip is what got me.  Just because it is stainless on the outside doesn't mean it's stainless on the inside...

Here's a stainless suppressed 30-30 Ackley Improved next to a potential lever donor for scale.  The Contender is so fun I've put off the other project.  You will have a much easier time finding a blued gun and having it chopped, threaded, and cerakoted in one stop.

If you really want SS, there are Browning BLRs in .308 and related chamberings that would work well.

I do like the idea of getting to choose a color or two for cerakote, and blued options are certainly more available.

Anyone ever had a lever gun cerakoted? Just wondering if it's something any cerakote outfit could do and if there are any limitations, nuances, etc.
