Title: Miter saw for cutting arrows
Post by: Stein on January 09, 2023, 02:55:43 PM
Anyone put a normal metal cut off wheel on a 10" miter saw to cut arrows?  I have a dozen to cut and want to buy as little new stuff to clutter my garage as possible.  I was thinking I could simply use the metal cut off wheel on my Delta saw and rig a stop so they are all a consistent, correct length.  The idea would be to tape the section I was cutting off, lower the blade into the shaft and then spin it to ensure a square cut.

I would finish with a squaring tool.

I have seen people buy the Harbor Freight or Amazon mini saws but can't see any reason why it wouldn't work with a saw most of us already own.

If you were closer I'd cut them for you. No idea about the metal blade but I do know most miter saws are under 4000rpm and my arrow say is 8000 I think.

I would not use a cut-off saw.  Most people have a dremel tool, if you don't reach out to a few buddies.  I'd have for you to compromise a dozen new arrows on the tip end where you need it to be at its best!

I have a dremel and was thinking about that but it seems like it would be more difficult to get the blade square to the shaft compared to the miter saw that is already square.

I have a half dozen broken arrows, so I'll practice plenty before making cuts that count.  The shafts I shoot were discontinued and I bought the last dozen I could find.

Use an arrow saw or your arrows won’t be square and that makes a difference at impact/consistency especially at distance

:yeah: I have used a dremel/cutoff wheel for years on carbon, works great. Just build a jig to hold arrow and dremel=square cut

Dremel with a fiber cut off wheel works good. Works well for fishing rod repairs or any carbon fiber or fiberglass items. Wear a mask.
