Title: Is winter over yet?

Now that chukar hunting is practically over its time to clean and store the shotguns. I believe chukar season ends today. What to do? What to do until spring?

I never find it too early to start looking at previous years, high country images I've captured while scouting or hunting. Later, formulating plans for scouting trips and hunts for the upcoming fall. These type images sure help distract me from WINTER's grip! Hope they do same for you.

Great time of year to predator hunt, a lot of fishing opportunities, some scouting/antler hunting to be had and a whole lot of planning for the next seasons. And great time to settle down and clean and dial in gear for next season. Even if its not the big push of the season there is plenty for one to do and enjoy.

I conveniently forget how steep that mountain was I climbed last year and tell myself, "Oh it wasn't that bad, you can do it in an hour", even though I know that to be a blatant lie.

If I don't do this stuff now, my calendar for the summer will fill up and I won't get any of it done. There's only 9 weekends in July and August, and half of those are full of other family obligations, so I've got 2 backpacking trips, and 2 family camping trips and a flex weekend bear hunt scheduled and on the calendar already. I started my workout routine back up in December after some health issues, and I feel great. I'm going to be ready to hit the hills hard as the snow starts coming off.

Throw in some house projects and the usual work stuff and its just as busy as any other time of year. I always tell myself I'm going to do a bunch of predator hunting but I'll be lucky if I make it out more than once or twice. Blink and it'll be turkey season!

Stocking up on things for upcoming seasons.
Can't do much target practice and such here in the NE corner. Not alot of places to pull off the main roads yet.
Still snowed in a bit.
Try to pull off to far ,your gonna be stuck.
Cleaning rifles and reloading and stocking up on stuff is about where I'm at.

Been a long winter already though and we’re only halfway through.

Post by: huntnnw on February 01, 2023, 10:30:43 PM: My winter …50lbs of Cajun elk sausage ,25lbs of honey siracha sticks. This weekend is 25 lbs of summer sausage and a very small batch of beef brisket trimmings into some elk for burgers.

the cajun sausage was something I found online and made it up. The honey siracha sticks I ordered from PS seasonings . They are amazing and everyone thats tried them asked where to buy the seasoning and if they can buy the sticks from me. Its fantastic

The sticks were 22-24mm sheep, the Cajun sausage was hog casings

Post by: idaho guy on February 02, 2023, 09:15:36 PM: Interesting topic, I’m the odd one out on this. December to march are my busiest months usually for hunting. I run hounds for lions and bobcats but also like to trap during the same months. Throw in some coyotes and wolf hunting and it gets busy. Wolf hunting is more looking than hunting for me 😂 but I have gotten 1 hunting. Trying to waterfowl more since my sons getting into it. I like to ski and snowmobile too lol. Winters not a downtime for me.
