I got my first mount back a few years ago happy as can be. I'm not going to bash the taxidermist or there business but I am really not happy with his eyes. I have talked to few people and I cant find anyone who will work on other peoples work. Can anyone help? I can send additional pics or bring the mount to you. Also how much should this cost? Any help would be great...

I had to delete my origional post. I would charge you 125.00 for a new cape and 485 for the new mount plus tax, thats how I can fix that for ya ;) I dont have a problem working on other people work as long as its riping of a set of horns and remounting it ;)

Pretty much what Charlie said. Not trying to be negative or talk down about your deer. Keep in mind I am only refering to the taxidermist work. The eye looks horrrible. If that eye looks that bad I can't imagine what the rest of the mount looks like. I donlt mind working on other taxidermists stuff as long as I know the history of their process. Like what kind of tan they used along with what kind of HIde paste they used etc etc. Not saying the eye can't be made to look better but I would recomend a remount as well.

Thanks for the help. So there is no way of just replacing eyes? I really dont want to remount him besides his eyes he looks just like he did when I shot him. He was an old rutted out buck with a torn ear. I dont want to loose his features. Thanks again :tup:

I can completely understand that. I wasn't trying to be harsh or unthoughtful. I just believe in being honest with people and giving them the bigger picture on our end. Yes, the eyes can be fixed. But on another note you must be open minded with the fact that if the hide was done with a really junky tan or dry preserve than you run the risk of more damage by another taxidermist rehydrating it to do the repairs. Rehydrating the eye and brow area on the mount is required to do the kinda repair your wanting.

I agree with Charlie & Michelle on this. Start from scratch with a new cape. It would be easier to tear the ear on a new cape than to repair that mount. That is truely a deer caught in the headlights!

The problem with trying to fix someone else's work that i have found is that no matter how bad the mount that was brought to the taxidermist is, that taxidermist now has the pressure of making something out of nothing. If it still comes out looking funny because the ears are the same way or they did a bad job sewing it up, then that mount turns into one that i did and not the one who messed it up and that does nothing for word of mouth. Do yourself and the taxidermist a favor and remount it. :twocents:

Thanks all for all your imput. I think I will leave it for now. I didnt realize it would be such a pain to swap out eye balls. Thanks again ;)

Wow, just seen this today, as already said about only way to do that is a new cape and start over.
