Anybody try it.
Gave it a go yesterday.
With some success and some not success. :chuckle:
308 on the left.
Got about 10 rounds to try out.

Had thought about trying it, but with a .308 also in the safe, didn’t want to ever be in the position of brain farting the use.

I’ve done it. Needed neck turned. The necks end up thick!

I noticed that only one needed trimmed.
I keep my 308 trimmed pretty good.
After making them 243 ,they are just a hair short, but I'm sure they will grow after a fire or two.
I made 10 rounds for accuracy and MV test.

:yeah:
I’ve turned .308 into 6.5 Creedmoor and I had that same problem.

As cheap as brass is I'll stick to proper head stamps.

If you really want some tough 243 brass, order some lapua small rifle primer brass. This stuff takes a beating and just keeps bouncing back
-
With .243 so readily available and cheap…..why?
-
Tried it with .260 and after buying the neck reamer it would have been cheaper just to buy .260 brass. Shooter's Pro Shop has occasional deals on .243 brass.
-
I haven't even looked at prices of brass .
Last time I checked nothing is " cheap" anymore.
I'm running it in an ar10 ,I do have some brass that I use in my bolt gun. But II don't like to mix them .Bolt guns in my experience seem to have tighter chambers than AR style rifles. Chewed up brass from the extraction and all that.
And I always find 556 ,308 military brass just left at shooting areas,so it's like FREE. Which is really cheap.
Anyway I'll give it a try and see what I can get out of it.
I'm not gonna waste time if it shoots like junk.
That's why I only loaded ten to try.
I'll try to update the thread later this week after I try them out.

Could I run magnum small rifle primers
Got some of those laying around.

yes you can.

I've done stuff like that just for fun. I made 50 300 Savage cases from a bunch of military 308 brass just because I was bored one day. It worked pretty well once I got a good system down.

Thats not a good choice for donor brass. Military 7.62 is used in so many different weapons, you could be getting once shot brass from a precision marksman rifle or mini gun ammo from a helicopter. Chamber tolerances and heating vary wildly.
