Title: Advice, youth day trip to high lakes for fishing
Post by: Stein on June 23, 2023, 10:21:10 AM: I'm working up a day trip to a high lake as a shakedown hike for a future backpacking trip for our Boy Scout troop. Ideally I'll find a lake within an hour drive from Arlington that is 4-7 mile round trip and some elevation gain but not a smoker. Of course, the lake should have some fish which is why I'm asking.

I have used the WDFW site for stocked high lakes but it seems woefully out of date. I hiked and backpacked a few that were supposedly good only to have them not hold fish. The writeups seem to be really out of date describing some lakes as recently stocked but they haven't been stocked for over 10 years.

I found Janus lake which seems to fit the bill, anyone been up there in the last couple of years? Any other suggestions?

Not big fish but there’s plenty at the inlet, pretty easy hike and scenic enough. A guy who needs a longer hike can walk farther. Flies, small spinners, worms and all the standard cutthroat spinning gear worked fine.
