How many of you guys hunt with C&R Military Surplus ? (Doesn't have to be all the time. Just time to time.)

I have used a somewhat sporterized 1903-A3 on and off for years. It was my grandfathers do all rifle. I was told it was 'his' rifle, that he brought it home from the war. I don't know about the truth in that. The forearm has been tastefully cut half way back. The half top-shroud is still in place. The stock clamp is still in place but bears no pressure on the barrel, only to keep the two pieces of wood together. I free floated the barrel and pillar/glass bedded the action. It has a wonderful Timney trigger and sports a B-Square no drill scope mount with a Leupold VXII 3-9x40. Warm hand loads for the old ought-six will print right around 2" at 200yds through the four groove Rem barrel. I have no idea of how many thousands of rounds have gone down that tube. It has a recoil pad installed from the late fifties that might as well be metal. Most people that shoot it say it is one of the most punishing rifles to ever shoot. In the woods it's right around nine pounds. It has been an ultra reliable rifle for me.

I have a sporterized 03-a3 also.It was given to my father.Dad drove ambulance in N.Africa and Italy in WWII. It was sporterized when he got it. The stock started warping so I bought a drop in synthetic at Cabelas. Hope to get a kill with it one year.I also hunt with Mosin Nagants,3 years ago I busted a pretty good blacktail with one of 'em. He was 19 wide 17 tall, and 12 inside. No eye guards,the forks were opposite, 2 on top on one side, the other side had 'em on the bottom. Kinda different.But it was good.

i have used a 03 as well, i really want to find another one when the wife lets me get another rifle. thinking of making it a 338-06.

I have used a Mod 98 Mauser that my grandfather built and now shoots 30-06. Eagle and swastika are stamped on receiver and bolt. Great rifle.

I have hunted with quite a few mil spec rifles. SKS, mausers( 98's and 96's), m-1 carbines, 1903 springfields and 17 enfields, and a mosin nagant m91. All were satisfactory for what I asked them to do. I like to hunt with them. Dont do much hunting with the pair of m-1 carbines. Not much of a deer gun, and worth too much. Most mil guns are fun tough guns.

I have only hunted with military rifles up til recently. Both customized Mausers either a model 98 in 30-06 or a swede in 6.5X55. I'm convinced the swede with its cut down military barrel would put 3 shots in the same hole if I did my job better. ;)

Hunted for a while with a Spanish short rifle Mauser in 7x57, have a few Springfields 1903s and 03-A3s and took a few feral dogs with a Swiss K-31.
so i guess that counts. all but the swiss were sporterized to some degree...the Spanish was the closest to Stock with only a Peep sight installed and the regular rear sight lost to the mists of time.

I hunt with a sporterized Enfield 30-06 from WWII. At 200 yards it'll hit a quarter 5 times out of 7. My dad hunted with it when I was small and my grandpa hunted with it before him. Great gun, the most accurate thing I've ever shot. Almost wanted to take it to Iraq with me.

if it was an enfield 30/06, wouldn't that have made it a WWI rifle?

Yes. Enfield .30-06, also known as Eddystone, were produced by remington. They made up ther company name eddystone solely for production of these rifles.
