Title: what is your favorite halibut rod/ electric reel combo
Post by: birddogdad on September 20, 2023, 10:41:27 AM
ok, i am researching a new setup for butts... Tanacom or Banix? what rod do you like in the one piece 6ft ish for that electric reel as a combo.. money is not in play, dont tell me "cheap barn find" for a rod.. i want a quality setup, maybe roller guides. i like Okuma, using for salmon rods and have no complaints just not sure for deep sea...i have 2 40 yo penn roller guided rods that have lasted the test of time.. with going electric, i want a snazzy rod to match.

let me know your thoughts on tanacom 800 vs banix 1000 , will run 80# braid. interested in how they hold up  and service/repair reports with those companies...

Tanacoms are pretty much bulletproof.
My 750s are 10-12 years old no issues. Plenty of power for Washington fish. I run 65 lb braid
Less blow back and again plenty for most Washington fish. 80lb will anchor a boat if you snag...

I'm running Penn rampage rods right now. 5'8 80-130. Pretty good rods. Good flex strong backbone. Avoid short meat sticks that don't flex. I stopped using roller tips years ago. Don't seem to be any benefit with them.

Seeker is a good option for rods...
Also Look into thrasher rods. Local guy named Jason is building them. Really good rods as well..
