Anyone use them? I like the idea of not having to do a second pass, looking for a good honest review…..thanks!
-
We use a regular meat grinder and it’s not too much extra effort to do another pass. I’m sure there would be more to clean up.
-
Never heard of them, but this pic from LEM doesn't make sense to me.
-
:yeah:
-
If that pic is what they call a double grinder I’ll stick to sending it through mine twice.
-
I should clarify, I own a standard grinder but am looking to upgrade and in doing some research have seen the dual grind options. Its basically a knife between a course plate and a fine plate.
-
I add beef suet to my burger and pork to my sausage. I grind once mix a bit by hand after then grind fine for my second and final mix. I guess if you aren't adding anything extra then the dual grind might save you a few minutes. I stick with single abs switching plates.

I just don't get how the grind plate ahead of the blade works. :dunno:

Me too and if I’m doing sausages I season mix and run through a second grind

I believe (because I have the parts for mine but never used it) you put the star cutter on,big hole plate, knife cutter then fine plate ? Mine has a 3 tip really thin blade knife thing...always wondered what it was for.
-
That 3 tip thin blade is for sausage stuffing. You use your large hole plate and the thin knife after you are done grinding.

I seriously considered buying one a year or two ago when it was time for a new meat grinder.
The only reason I didn't, was at least at that time, you couldn't get the biggest electric motor in the dual grinder.
If that has changed I would consider one next time I need a grinder, but hopefully my current keeps going for a while.

I used an LEM "dual grind" recently and wasn't impressed. I tend to trim as little as possible as long as I can get it down the tube Im usually good to go. This machine bogged down and shut off several times on chunks of meat that I feal like should not have given it trouble.
Another thing to consider is some dual grinds won't attach to meat mixers if that matters to you.

That's what I was worried about, seems so strange they only offer it in the 1hp motor and size 22. If you are going to do a double grind grinder, which by definition requires more power, having the big throat and 1.5HP is common sense, I wonder if they were trying to hit a pricepoint and neutered the thing in the process.

Just a sales gimmick lol.If I'm ever so pressed for time I cant grind twice i just wont grind.
