Title: rifled muzzleloader to shotgun
Post by: The Gobble-stopper on October 13, 2023, 08:38:03 PM
I have a 54 cal muzzleloader, I was wondering if it could be bored out and made into a muzzy shotgun. I tried google and got no where. I did not mic the barrel and wouldnt come close to know what the tolerances would be for allowance. Just a thought, I am not home right now so have  no idea.  Was hoping I could make it into a 20 gauge. But may not be enough meat left to do that. And a 410 might allready be smaller than a 54 cal.

You could just bore out the lands. Since ML shotguns don't have to use shot cups, it doesn't really matter the actual diameter. My 12g, double barrel has a much thinner barrel than if I reamed out a 54 cal to 0.615 (20g).

I think you might just be better buying a 12 ga front stuffer.  They are lighter, fit the shoulder better and they are not as long as a rifle.  You can load a 12 ga down to 20 ga but you load a the 12 ga a lot heaven than the 20 ga.  I have both a rifle and shotgun.  The shotgun is a lot lighter than the rifle.
