I have a new stock Knight Ultralite. Using Musket caps and they rarely fire the first time, even if I force them on all the way with a stick or pen. Never had this issue with other Muzzys. Any advice from you Muzzy guys
Thanks
-
Last year I bought a brand new mountaineer, I had the same issue except I was using the 209s in the red plastic jackets. Sabotloader really helped me out, we tried troubleshooting everything we could think of and it turned out to be a faulty bolt. Knight replaced it for free. I've had zero issues since then, but it was frustrating for a brand new muzzy.
Silly question, but is the safety thats on the bolt screwed all the way "out"? '
-
Screw the breach plug back towards the bolt until it is nearly touching when the bolt is closed.
Try popping a cap.

Is the bolt adjusted correctly?
-
Every company goes through a quality issue at some point. Luckily, Knight is known for excellent customer service. I'd give them a call and see if they can help you out.

Ill take a look at the manual and see if it adjusts. Im used to my old Bighorn

Hope you get it figured out quickly and it doesn’t affect a hunt this year.
It is ironic that all the knight lovers (not hating on them and I will likely buy one this year to try out), are quick to trash CVA, traditions ect. Due to QC problems and this is an all to common problem with knight. Literally hundreds of post on knights not having ignition problems….just google it. Appears to be a coin flip if you get a good one or not.

Same could be said for Savage, or almost any other brand. Everybody has their preference, qc issues are always a bummer but the real test is in the customer service

That is my point….ie why I’m still going to buy a knight to try out. Just kills me that there are a couple post from earlier this year that trash other brands when this is a very common problem. Hope it is an easy fox for the op.

Not to hijack a thread but why use a musket cap instead of a 209 primer?

Pretty sure the OP is in Idaho. Not sure they can use the 209 ignition system.

Thanks everyone for the replies and tips
I did what I should have done in the beginning. I went to their website and watched a video on how to adjust the bolt/firing pin. I adjusted it and it fires every time. I dont know why it came from the factory not adjusted properly but it looks like I'm good to go now
Thanks again, Dave

Great news….look forward to hearing how your hunt goes. Good luck!!

I had the same problem as you, wound up doing the offset musket cap nipple. Evidently Knight had issues with their straight centered musket, offset worked out great.
The "temp fix" on the inline musket cap nipple is to back it off 1/4-1/2 turn. If you're in a pinch, found that on the Internet.
My bolt was correctly clocked and adjusted to .
I ultimately converted mine to RPJ 209 ignition, but I hung onto the offset nipple and breech plug in case I decide to muzzleload in idaho

I spoke too soon. Went and shot today 8 out of 10 shots took twice to fire. I dont get it. Im hunting Sunday any way, sure hope it doesnt cost me a shot

.I know that your trying to use the Idaho legal system, but maybe the same concept applies here. The bolt assembly with the dull finish on the bolt handle was the one that gave me all the issues. The shiny finished one is the one they sent me after I called. It works 100% of the time. I believe the dull finished bolt assemblies were a bad batch essentially

Hi Raydog,
Mine has the shiney bolt. Thanks for the idea though. I'll reach out to knight on Monday

Knight told me to use a different Musket cap. He said to use CCI 301 not the German 1081.
:bash: Who can find musket caps right now?

I don’t believe that for a second. I don’t use the musket caps . I use #11 and the German ones. Shouldn’t make one bit of difference. Let us know if that makes the difference.

Have you spoke with sabotloader yet. He is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to anything knight related.

yes he is! Glad he got you squared away. I’m betting it wasn’t buying different musket caps.
-
Most importantly.....How did the hunt go??
-
Well I didnt go :bash:
Partially because it wasnt firing correctly and partially because I was being a weenie. I regret not going thats for sure
The good news is its firing every time now
