Title: Flatlanders coming west in 2024, any WA mule deer outfitter recommendations
Post by: Beastmonger1987 on December 07, 2023, 09:39:55 AM
Looks like my father in law and possibly my father will be making their first trip out to Washington to hunt with us next fall.

I've already researched Icicle Outfitters and Early Winters Outfitting about putting together a possible mule deer hunt together. Are there any other outfitters I should talk to about Washington mule deer?

I've got Bearpaw on speed dial if they decide to go the whitetail / black bear route. They are both in their mid 60s living back in Florida.

Thanks for your help HUNTWA!

I think you can't go wrong with Icicle. I know it was a tough year for deer hunters with outfitters this year. Are you planning a high hunt or regular season hunt?

A lot will depend on what kind of shape they are in. The high country is not flatlander friendly if not in reasonable shape ( rough and elevation change) . It would be like us going to Colorado and hunting at 10,000 feet . That said Icicle creek for a muley/bear combo and the high alpine scenery would be my choice.

I'm thinking that the high buck hunt is probably out of the question for them. Probably gonna be focused on a general season hunt.

Not sure if early winters is doing "guided" hunts at the moment but I know he's still running drop camps.

I hear so many good things about Tanglewoods.  Might be a better option.  That country is a little calmer.   Jensen is a good guy from everything I have heard.  The Okanogan herd is doing a little better than most.

These are the mule deer options I have available for 2024, just message me if interested, thanks, and good luck wherever you decide to go!

WASHINGTON
If you are interested in archery? We have several mule bucks on one of our NE WA ranches where we have only been hunting the late season (whitetail only). We plan to start doing a couple archery mule deer hunts the first week of September each year. It will be a very easy hunt, from blinds along game trails or at feeders.

IDAHO
If you decide you want to venture into Idaho, I have numerous allocated mule deer tags and guided or unguided deer hunts available for rifle or archery. This is usually a harder hunt due to steeper country but we can make it easer if needed.

MONTANA
This is our most successful deer hunt, we are 100% harvest for 6 years straight on mature mule deer and whitetail bucks with rifle and bow, and close to 100% for the last 20 years. It's your choice which specie you want to hunt. Tags are a draw but there is a high draw percentage by buying the additional outfitter point and going with an outfitter.

Bearpaw Outfitters, I don't have personal experience with them but I have heard great things about them.  There is a new one in Conconully I think it's Okanogan guide service.  Great properties all private owned by his father in law.  Had a pretty bad experience with Early Winters.  Look up "sucker camp"

Don’t be afraid to look at eagle lakes ranch. They only take a few deer hunters a year but it’s in very manageable country and they have great success rates. Also not in the mountains so to say so temps should be a lot more mild.

Great hunt with Eagle Lakes Ranch. Guides Travis and Rick did an amazing job with my wife and father in law
