My dad and I were drawn for late archery tags, basically doe tags. I put us in for it because I have heard it has some descent bucks come out of there. We have never hunted that area but have been told that there is a a lot of private ground. If anybody could point us in a general direction I would appreciate it. Headed over the first or second weekend of August to start looking. Thanks!

What unit and part of the State is Greyback in?

South central between east and west Klickitat.

look on your map. find Gray back mountain and hunt it. There should be plenty of animals to choose from. I will be to the neighboring unit with a buddy that drew the west klickitat.

There's lots of public land in the grayback unit. You probably won't see alot of animals in August but they will be migrating into the Klickitat drainage in November. I would start my research in game farm area(soda springs), Glenwood/Goldendale grade, and grayback mountain. Don't know the dates of the hunt this year but the general late archery used to be in the tail end of the rut around Thanksgiving which can make it a little more exciting. I would bring a pair of antlers for a little rattling action, might just be surprised what comes sneaking in.

Our family has hunted there for years. The best place is Soda Springs rd. They put up a gate 2 yrs. ago, so you can't drive all the way down, but the farm is a good place to hunt. Our son took his first deer there 2 yrs. ago and my husband got his last yr. and my brother in law shot at one, but didn't get it. We saw over 50 head down on the farm with some really nice bucks. So look up Klickitat Wildlife area find soda springs rd. and there you go.

One other thing about Soad Springs Rd. It comes to a "y", it doesn't matter which way you go, it's gated on each side. If you park near the gates and go into the center, you can hang a treestand. We had 2 up last Nov. and a ground blind too. They got a lot of deer going past them.

Mostly the same advice from me. Soda Springs, breaks of the Klick near Grayback mtn both major deer areas. There are some really good bucks off of the boundary road too, so you might look into Devils Canyon. Personally I wouldn't start in August, unless you just want to get to know the country. Those deer are going to get pushed all over during the rifle hunt, and it isn't a great area for glassing.

Thanks sandy and fish. I was told that it was a migration hunt so I'm am going to check out the areas that you guys have suggested.

There's tons of does in there. I've archery hunted it a few times. My advice is to find the oaks that are producing acorns and get up in a tree. Should be fun.

Should be an easy one. If you have snow they will stand and watch you walk up to them. Lots of does.
