Fish and Wildlife Commission seeks public input on draft Best Available Science Policy
OLYMPIA – The Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission is opening a public comment period on its draft Best Available Science Policy through May 24, 2024.
The draft Best Available Science Policy provides direction to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) on the use of and access to best available science and to help inform the Commission decision-making process.
“If adopted, this policy will inform a variety of Department and Commission processes,” said John Lehmkuhl, Chair of the Commission’s Big Tent Committee. “Your feedback will help us improve the policy to bring the best available science to our decision making processes.”
The public is invited to comment on the draft policy by submitting written comments online, or by sending an email to bestavailablescience@publicinput.com. A link to the full policy is available on WDFW’s website. The Commission intends to incorporate feedback received during this comment period and finalize the policy this summer.
All members of the public are invited to share their diverse perspectives and participate in WDFW public feedback opportunities regardless of race, color, sex, age, national origin, language proficiency, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, status as a veteran, or basis of disability.
The Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission is a panel appointed by the governor that sets policy for the WDFW. WDFW works to preserve, protect and perpetuate fish, wildlife and ecosystems while providing sustainable fish and wildlife recreational and commercial opportunities.

They shouldn't even be allowed to change policy.
You have to be able to follow current policy before you change policy.

With that said ....
#COMMISSIONZEROTRUST LOL 😂.

With recent petitions, bear and cougar seasons being changed.
Unable to provide regulations in store, selling tags for cougar without a fall season in place.  On and on.

I have absolutely zero,I mean -zero trust in everything the commission does.

Best available science slaps them in the face daily from WDFW.
Still they just do what they want anyway.

The truly incredible thing is that the 'best available science' includes social science according to the policy linked on their comment page. It doesn't take much imagination to consider the damage the Commission could do with that.

Commented:
"The only science the WDFW should be using to set seasons and harvest needs is the science that the boots on the ground WDFW biologists provide!
Not the science that the Anti-Hunting commission members make up in their head because it fit their anti hunting agenda".

Anyone else getting sick of having to do these comment emails every other week to help keep our hunting and fishing alive?
How and the heck can any good WDFW employee get up in the morning and look in the mirror and feel good about going into work for these idiots? Must be mind numbing and agonizing.... :bash:

Comment:
"The inclusion of "social science" has nothing to do with fish and wildlife science. "Social Science - n - the scientific study of human society and social relationships. a subject within the field of social science, such as economics or politics. plural noun: social sciences" This additional "science" seems to be a clear path which enables commissioners to ignore the advice of biologist boots on the ground, based on the commissioners' subjective interpretation of public attitudes...which is not science at all. Never has a species gone extinct as a result of licensed hunting. The North American Model of Wildlife Conservation (NAMWC) is the envy of the entire sporting and hunting world. Our wildlife populations are abundant and are well-served by wildlife and game departments which adhere to the seven principles of the NAMWC. The duty of our Wildlife Commission is to make decisions which foster that abundance, provide hunting opportunity, and follow the recommendations of our highly-qualified WDFW wildlife biologists."

Have no fear!!!  These will be the people they will listen to, not the real science out there! :bash:

They live and breath from government grants!  So in the government's eyes, they are the most intelligent!  :yike:
