Title: Nooksack River Drainage Bear Scouting
Post by: shanevg on June 15, 2009, 01:57:21 PM
Went up with my little brother (alecvg) yesterday scouting for bear season.  We saw 2 bears, both of them very large and 3 mountain goats which were probably in the new Mt. Baker East unit (although I can't be sure until I see the new boundary).  The first bear is the bear my buddy (D-Man) missed early last August.  It is a bit bigger this year, pretty massive for this time of the year in fact.  He is a chocolate color phase but most of his hair is graying which is really neat.  You can see in the video that he waddles when he walks.  We stalked to about 100 yards of him before he caught our scent (second video).  About a half hour after he disappeared, a second, slightly smaller bear came out from the other direction (third video).  That one looked pretty big as well.  I didn't get any good pictures of the mountain goats, they were about half a mile away.  The first 4 pictures are of the first bear and the second two are of the second bear.  The first 2 videos are of the first bear.

Added second video, I have another shorter video of the second bear, but my memory card filled up, I'll try to get that on later.

Added the final short video of the second bear right as it came out of the woods.

Wow! that bear in the second to last picture is a giant. Hope he's still around for you come opening day.

You've just got to stay calm Alec.  Can't let your heart get pumping too fast and have the adrenaline affect your camera shots.
 ;)

Well ya, and the fact that the camara I was using doesn't zoom in worth a darn!
