I met kirkl my dad and his dad in vantage for the trip to Montana. Our dads were raised back in the wheat and ranch country of eastern montana. We still have a lot of relatives back there. Makes it pretty nice, not much ruffing it for us when we are there and dinner is at different relatives house every night. we got to our cousins house about 2:30 in the afternoon threw are stuff in the basement and i told my cousin my truck was still warm if he want to go for a quick evening hunt and he grabbed his rifle and we were off. it was about a 15 minute drive to his property and 1/2 way there a coyote jumped out of a coolee and we warmed are barrels up on him, but that all we did was warm are barrels up, he was still moving good when he ran out of sight. we headed back down the road too his property and he has some land he can't farm be cause it is too steep with a bunch of brush and grass growing in the bottom of it. kirk and decide to make a push threw it and see if we can kick any thing out of it and our cousin would pick us up on the other side. we loaded our rifle and started heading down to the brushy bottom, we are still with in 200 yards of the pickup and see I a set of ears 50 yards below us in the scrub brush. The deer must have known we seen it, because a second later it jumped and was getting the heck out of there, we still don't know what it is. It popped out about a 100 yards from us flat smoking across about a 50 yard opening and all i could see was a butt and horns. we have hunted back there before and i figured it was one of the better whitetail bucks we have seen back there and i decided to shoot. Gave him a good ole Texas heart shot just as he went out of sight. We ran up too were we had last seen him and we could see him 75 yards away standing facing away from us with his head down . I didn't want to shoot him in the a## again and he looked pretty sick, we snuck up on the side hill to try and get a better angle on him and when we got there he was gone, we looked up at my cousin still standing at the truck and watching the whole thing and pointed for us to walk further out the little ridge we were on and we did the the buck came boiling out the thick brush and i shot and missed his a pretty close range, and over the next hill he went. in hot persuet we took of after him and as we crested the hill too peak over i could see him looking up from out the brush below and gave him poke in the neck and down he went. I'll tell you it wasn't a text book kill, but I was wishing i had given him another one in the butt when i had chance the first time. those whitetails back there are so dang sneaky its unbelievable and that scrub brush they live in is flat thick and thorny They will just lay down and you may never find them. Any way drove for 19 hours and i tagged out in 30 minutes, I scored him when i got home was quite surprised, it was biggest whitetail i have ever killed as far as b&c goes, but far from the prettiest. What do you think scores??????

That's a pretty buck...Congrats! I'm no master scorer but I'd give ya 155 and I usually seem to be conservative so I hope I'm wrong and he goes bigger for you! Good job!!!!!

Sweet trip and pics! Looks like you got out of that country in the nick of time. My pops has 20 inches of snow if the past three days! It was bluebird for me as it was for your trip, based on the photos. Congrats!

I think that he will score 147". Nice Whitey. :brew:

And I said I'm usually under looks like this time I went over according to you others! :dunno: When do we find out the answer? I gave him more than I would normally cause of the mass which is the hardest thing for me to judge in a picture and he looks like he has lots o mass! Without that he looks real close to a friends buck that was scored at 142.

You folks pretty are good, 142. I was figuring in the low 130, but i'm not too good at field scoring them, i was tickled to kill my first 140" whitey. It was a good trip, kirk killed a nice muley buck and then i met up with corey on the way home for a few of sheep hunting and he killed a booner ram.
