Who is throwing their name in the hat to chase elk in Wyoming this fall?
-
I will be throwing my hat in the ring, but with only 1 pt don't expect to get to go.
-
I will with my 14 points. of course I will be chasing units that need 15 plus. Im as dumb as ever!!! :o
-
Do you guys use the points you have coming into the draw to determine where to apply, or do you get an additional point when applying?
-
You go in with your current number of points. You dont get a point at all for applying, you have to buy them later in the year.
-
3 points, and getting older every year. :'(
-
16 applying for a wilderness area, then will update choices after the final commission next numbers come out.
-
I’m in 8)
-
Not me, I only have 11 points... :chuckle: waiting another year or 2...
-

Wow... that should put you in a decent area.... have the outfitter picked out?

I know someone w 19, not sure 16 will even sniff a draw unit.
-
Going combo! Yes it seems odd, but it’s a premium antelope hunt with a cow tag elk hunt attached. The unit is about 9-10 points for antelope but cow elk is only 1-2 points. So we are going combo and it should be a blast.

I have contacted a few. Some outfitters say booked up but are not due to the fact they can't guarantee a draw. HF tells me you draw we will have an outfitter for you.
-
Plenty of units 16 pts will get you in with an outfitter in the wilderness.

I have 5 points and just want a darn Western Elk General so I can hunt with my dad that lives there. Anyone have a bunch of points that is just going for a Western General that wants to go in partners so I can draw before he's disabled or dead and gone? At this rate it will take that long...

I've got 6. Think 5.5 will get it done?

5 points should get you a tag in the regular or special draw this year with no problem. If you want it to be a 100% with no doubt, put in for the special and you will get a tag for sure. Last year it was 100% success in the regular and special with 5 points.

I am not sure if 5.5 is good enough, but I would hate to screw up your chances if it took 6 to draw.

Special draw is out as I am doing a house remodel starting in 2 weeks so the hunting funds are limited to the regular draw this year. I am hoping I can get it with 5 points so we'll see.

15pts and put in for unit 7!

15pts and put in for unit 7!
Right on, keep us posted on that one  are you going with an outfitter if you pull a tag or sticking to public ground?
-
11 points here, no one to go with. Thinking 2-3 years away to go for it. 1 Shot for a 340 bull. Anyone with advice or want to team up?
-
I’m in for the western zone general but will need to hit the random.
-
I will be in with max points. not sure what unit yet. but still low draw odds for all the units on the short list.
-
Have an outfitter for unit 7 lined up if I draw. I’ll be 74 soon so I want to improve my odds of a nice bull.
-
2023 was likely my last, unless I go to spot for my son.
-
Okay I lied earlier…I am one less then max…so I went special elk in a popular unit. A few guys I know have hunted elk there and had a blast. We will see how it goes…..
:IBCOOL:
-
Just put in for 19-1 with 13 points. First time applying for Wyo. Anyone hunted this unit?
-

It's supposed to be Thursday but I think tomorrow is possible.

I'll need a miracle, just in for the random draw portion. My 2 points not doing me much good for the tag I'm looking for. But stranger things have happened.

Try doing it from a desktop. My phone wont load it but if I copy/paste on the desktop it loads in about 30 seconds.

Max points and the special draw. no luck this year.
-
No bull tag for me with special and 17 points.
The wife and my two buddies drew cow tags though. Let the hunt prep begin!
-
5 points did not draw an general west tag in the regular draw

wow, you must be going for a premium tag I take it? The point creep must be getting real?!
-

Draw odds are out - looks like you had a 45% chance to draw with 5. Should be good next year with 6 (that's my plan anyway)
-
Could not pull a General W with 5 points. Hopefully there is a cow tag in the leftover with my name on it.
-
Drew general with 6
-
Unsuccessful for me and my brother on the reduced price cow elk tags.
-
Swing and a miss for me on a type 9.
-
Drew 19-1 starting October 1
-
Drew Unit 7 Type-1
-
Congrats all, hope to draw a general next year w 6 points and when I’m retired so time off don’t mean chit!!

I tried for unit 30. Tough tag to get.

Drew Unit 7 Type-1
That is a great hunt! You going guided or trying to go public land with some corner crossing mixed in?? 😂
-
I drew general W with 6 points.
-
No luck for me in the random
-
Its my 2nd year in a row of point creep holding me back . Even a general tag taking 6 points in Wyoming is wild.
-
Lets go back when i was drawing a general tag every other year. Guess i had my hay day. Had my last I think.

And you could almost count on a h tag every hear, g tag every two or three. Ah yes, life was better before the greed of the state game departments.
-
I drew general West, but bought the archery stamp. looking to hunt last 2 weeks of September.
-
Three of us drew cow elk licenses in the leftover draw. We'll be hunting the first week of October. Possibly going back again later in the season sometime if we have unfilled tags, since the season goes to the end of January.
-
We returned Sunday from 10 days in SW Wyoming. Our group filled our 3 cow tags and also 4 antelope buck tags.
We witnessed some amazing rut action! Saw around 30-35 bulls in 4 days.
My wife took her cow out of a herd of 35 elk with 10 being bulls.
335 yards shot with her .270 Win. Using 150 grain Nosler Partitions.
All 4 of us vowed to go back and do this hunt again as soon as possible. It was a blast!

Awesome, sounds like a good time! I've thought about combining elk w/ antelope there but have been a little reluctant... how'd the timing work out for you? Prioritize elk first? How'd you play the seasons?

Great questions. And yes you should do it!
We arrived Friday afternoon and hunted antelope till Tuesday. My wife shot a 13” buck on Saturday. I shot a 14” buck on Sunday. My two buddies shot 14.5” bucks on Monday.
The cow hunt started on Tuesday. So we scouted for elk as we hunted antelope, it gave us a good head start on what the elk were doing before we started hunting. A great plan since we only had 4 days to hunt elk. But it worked out and we got it done!

Awesome, already thinking about next year. Congrats and thanks for the info!

I still have a general West tag and trying to figure out a couple days to get back down there and see what I can do. Open for suggestions.
