The first year that it is somewhat closer to us i will certainly attend. Hey Rick, have you ever entered or thought about entering a major coyote competition. I don't mean just calling, but an actual hunt. I have been trying to get my partner to take one on because win or lose i think it would be an amazing time.

only the Gemstate hunt entered the first year with bofire. could of did well. last day coyote's were hot. other two year's i helped out. been to the predatormaster's hunt 3 time's in Globe Arizona it's just a fun hunt. this year it's in Los Cruses New Mexico. will be alot of coyote's. never made to a big one. would like to. The folks that run the expo are based out of the midwest. They run the midwest predator hunt, which is one of the "big 3" coyote hunts in the U.S. each year. I don't think we will ever see it further west than maybe Denver, and that would be iffy.

they have them in cortez colorado. elko nevada, utah, and a bunch in texas.we dont have any around here as far as i know. Rick

I truely think i will make a run at attending the one in Nevada. I have never hunted Nevada but from what i hear and read, it is the predators hunting mecca. I know that Texas is truely amazing, but i am affraid it would be hard to find any public land to hunt close enough to the event, although almost all of the hunting i do locally (Washington State east and west) i do on private ground so i am not affraid one bit to knock on ever door in sight. I have talked to guys and read articles about Nevada and they have so much public land and so many predators throughout the state they it is nearly impossible to run into anyone, plus you don't even need a license. Sounds like a dream come true.
-
You are right on the Texas hunts. The midwest contest is pretty much private land and access driven. Your best bet would be Elko or Globe, but do it for the experience and hope, but don't expect a decent placing. The winning teams have usually been doing the event for years, and have access to quality private land near the check-in point.

When Ricky and I entered the Gem state we could have won, it was our first entry in that area and we had to find coyotes. We found them but the wind was blowing 30-50 MPH. hard to hit them with that on the 2-300 yard dogs.
We had a great time and met some great folks, I recommend hunting it.

Hey Bofire, do you happen to know the info on the Gem state tourney. Dates, contact info, or a website. I have been predator hunting for 12 years now and have called in hundreds of them but i want to go to the next level and see just how i stand with the best and maybe take something away from the experience. I enjoy watching hunting videos for entertainment but i have a hard time realistically applying their advice into real setups. I guess maybe i am just hardheaded and know what works for me and have a hard time straying from that. To much editing on videos doesn't allow to easily see what goes on during the whole setup.

furbearer I will look for the links and post them later.

Gem State tourney is usually the 3rd full weekend in January. Kevin Lukens took over GSPHA last year, but I think they will probably keep the same dates in place.
