Title: B-Ham Blacktails
Post by: highhunter on June 24, 2009, 08:03:33 AM
Forgot I had these pics. They are from 2007, taken by my Brother's buddy who took some photo's of this buck while doing a survey. Not bad if you ask me. Has anyone seen this buck before?

Highhunter, that is a STUD of a buck.  I'm guessing, Lake Whatcom, Sudden Valley area???  Seems like that is where all the really good bucks in this county are.  Great pics!!!

I'm pretty sure this one was from Fairhaven. But you are right about Sudden Valley. My Brother says the biggest he has seen up there was two book bucks running down the asphalt on Mississippi Street at 5am.

For those of you that don't know the area, these bucks live mostly in the city limits or residential/rural/county park non-shooting areas. They are well fed from gardens and other feeding systems as many of the people here treat them as pets.

One of the biggest blacktail bucks I've ever seen was right on Woburn... where the built the new bridge after the Whatcom Creek fire. Seriously... it was at least 130"... though my judgement may have been a little impared from a long night out at the Royal.

I've seen some huge bucks up in Sudden Valley too... saw one huge fork-horn on the golf course one day.

If you can't shoot em a guy should at least try to get the sheds, those are awesome blacktails.

Awesome buck!  I've seen some pigs in the Fairhaven area back in the late 80's when I was attending WWU.  Also, up near Lake Padden (north side) there is a housing development.  Before that was built up, that was my honey hole.  I rattled in some nice bucks in there and have photos of a 4x7 non-typical that I hunted for three years.  I never saw him out of velvet.

Uphill from the Drive In ain't a bad bet either  ;)

Highhunter, a friend of mine surveys with your brother's buddy and sent me those pics right after he took them. He said they saw this buck off Yew St. I've seen other pics of this buck taken in a backyard off Lakeway Dr. right by Whatcom Falls. He is a dandy. Don't know if he's still around. Here's one more pic.

I live on Chuckanut Drive just out of Fairhaven. Looking out my living room window I can see into a big chunk of woods where the deer go when they want to act like "wild deer". This is looking out my window.

The deer spend half their time in the woods and the other half roaming the neighborhoods. This buck was poached out of my neighbors back yard by some punk in 2007.

Another big deer from a few years back.

Yeah you can't drive through Sudden Valley and not see deer, and yes there are some HOGS!!!!  And like previously mentioned most are pretty tame like pets.

Some nice deer. To bad they all have been named by the residents.  At least they don't have collars on them yet.   :chuckle: :chuckle:  The key to big antler growth in Bham is lots of granola.
