I am looking to buy a 17/22 cal single pump break style pellet rifle for target practice / varmint controll around the yard etc. I have been looking at the beeman 17/22 combo with a 4x32 scope and the crossman 17cal 1200 fps with a 3-9x40 scope at walmart. The one thing I am curious about is the crossman says it gets 1200fps with the lead free pellets and the beeman doesnt say that but it advertises 1000fps , so what i am thinking is that the beeman would do same as the crossman with the lead free pellets ? Anyone have either one or have any other good suggestion for an under $200 gun thats all my budget will allow me at this time. thanks

I got a Gamo .177 that shoot like 950 w/ a BSA 4x scope that I'll sell ya.... I paid just over 100$ a couple years a go. 65 bucks you pay shipping....

Been looking for a friend and the best deal I have found are the refurbished ones at cabelas.com. I know a lot of people would not buy refurbished but for the price and the return policy Cabelas has I would not be scared. The link is below to their pellet guns and they have 4-5 different refurbished ones. I just picked up the Gamo Shadow at a yard sale with scope for 40 bucks and man is that thing accurate and powerful.

I have a Beeman that shoots 900 fps and is a fun gun. Took out a rabbit last week at 40 yards because he was eating my little girls strawberries. Not a good move on his part. Look into them, they are built really good and for a fair price.

I just bought the Ruger Airhawk .177 cal. pellet gun last week. It has a 4x scope on it and is only $129. I am really happy with it, it consistently hits a pepsi can at 50 yards. I also shot a sparrow at 30 yards with it and it blew 1/2 its head off :chuckle: It says Ruger but it is actually made in china not actually made by ruger. What ever one you buy make sure you try several different types of pellets because they are very picky on which ones will shoot accurately. also try pyramydair.com and read the reviews. Which of the moderately priced pellet guns deliver the best hunting accuracy, including a good trigger? I'd heard complaints about one popular brand, but I can't find that thread to consult it. One would like to avoid getting a 'hard hitting' pellet gun (velocity) that doesn't hit where you want it to.

I keep hearing start at $200 and go up from there. The RWS's are nice for the money. I have the Crosman quest, decent for the price, lots of cheap parts, made in China. I also have a Beeman gs950 in 22, I really like that, it's a Spanish made gun like the Gamo's. For the price (I think it was around $180 w/scope) I am more than impressed. Much better quality than the Crosman. However, I'm wondering what the RWS's are like and the other german made springers.
Oh, on a side note, the 22 cal has way more wallop than the 17. The 22 is going about 700 and the 17 around 950. Gamo talks up their PBA ammo, it's just a light alloy pellet. All guns will shoot them about 20% faster. I personally haven't had good luck with them, they are not as accurate in my guns, and I've heard they are bad for the springers (creates lots of vibration). Most of the springer nuts on other sites really tout up the heavy pellets, like the Beeman Kodiak or Crow Magnum, they really smooth out the vibrations and create better accuracy.
I'd really like a 25 cal now, heard Gamo is going to offer one soon. Beeman used to have one, as did a couple other companies. Should be really cool on rabbits and other small varmits.

I too have heard that the gamo triggers are not very good but i have never shot one so i cant tell you. But i do know that there is a website that sells an aftermarket trigger that works in several brands of air rifles, including gamo and crosman.

I went to sportco and was lookink at the gamo big cat 177 with a scope for a little under $150 that i like. it is much lighter than most of the others that i have looked at so far . anyone have experience with this model ?
