I am planning on getting a camera with my Income tax return this year. Don't really want to spend more than $1500.00 for a workable system that I can build on next year. I am open to suggestions. :)

canon 40d with a couple decent kit lenses for $1200.00 or so.

Thank you replying. Is it better than the 50 D? :dunno:

i dunno...
my dad bought the 40d with the kit lenses and he loves it.

I would buy a refurb Canon model a couple years old and save the rest for lenses. That'll make the biggest difference in IQ anyway. best luck and let us know how it turns out.

You should be able to pick up a 40D for around $600-650. Spend the money on the glass and a good editing software.

I have the Sony A700 and am very happy with the quality of pictures it produces. It has 12.4 mega pixels and alot more options you can check it out at on sony's website I paid about 1700.00 for it a year ago with two sony lenses, you can also use Minolta A style lenses with it. Since sony came out with the A900 the price of the A700 has went down quite a bit.

If you are planning to get into serious Photography there really is only two choices. (Canon or Nikon) As was already said I would look at a year old high end body and spend all your money on a lens.
