Title: Nice surprise.
Post by: cabin308 on June 25, 2009, 06:05:29 PM
First pic of a bear.  I admit I am a horrible judge of bears.  I think it looks pretty plump and has nice coloring but beyond that I'm  :dunno:.  Big?  Small?

Its not a big bear, but it does have a pretty hide! I'd shoot it with my bow...but not with my rifle...unless I misjudged her!! :0) Which has happened before! :dunno:

55 gallon drum bear.  Man that thing is fat.  Looks like this one loves the block.  Really it looks small?  Is it just that it looks short.  Looks good to me.

Thanks for the feedback guys.  By saying I was horrible in judging bears, I should have also backed that by saying I don't know what is considered "big" or "small" because I don't hunt specifically for them.  Haven't measured it but I'd guess the stump is about 2 to 3 feet tall.  :dunno:

Not to be naive :P but what's a 55 gallon drum bear?  Is that because it looks as big as one or he's a dumpster diver?  :chuckle:

His ears give him away at being smaller. They are more on top of the head and give the Mickey Mouse appearance. As bears get larger, so do their skulls an for the most part the ears move outward and lower. That leaves more space between the ears and as stated in anothe thread, larger bears will develope a dimple between the ears.

This one sure is a fatty but would go with 2 yr. old at 140-150 lbs.

Yeah, he's just really round like a drum.  I think Killbilly is right, narrow ears means a young bear, but man its fat.
