I used to fish as a kid and I just got a license and regs. Isn’t this a pink year? Am I reading this wrong? Area 8-2 near mukilteo you have to release pinks?
-
That's how it reads, release all pinks.
-
I think your new license allows you to watch them swim past in the millions. Stay back 400yds and no flash photography I believe
-
:chuckle:
-
I always put the app ahead of anything else. I don't see the mention of pinks in there.
That would make zero sense for a near record run.
-
The paper regs + emergency rules. The app often wrong.

Don't forget to shut your motor off and for good measure tilt it up out of the water. :chuckle:
I imagine the app will be updated before Aug 1 although WDFW advertises it is updated realtime. They also advertise e-catch cards in 2024 or early 2025, so unfortunately to be safe you need to check multiple sources to be 100% sure.

How can the paper regs be the source of truth with so many changes they push every other week?

Even here, no mention of pink release.
Wouldn't this website hold up if a warden questions you?
-
“Marine area 8-2 is open Aug 1st through Sept. 24 for non-selective coho only. There will be no pink salmon retention in Marine Area 8–2 due to a low forecasted pink salmon return to the Stillaguamish River.”

The App is a little off sometimes. Its getting updated on July 1st. So everything in there should be good after that
-
my guess is it's to protect the kings that run through 8-2 to the stilly since they are the main driver of a lot of the closures.
I am saying this because the amount of uninformed idiots who keep small chinook and think they are pinks is ASTOUNDING.
Seriously. but then id be giving WDFW too much credit for thinking of something smart.
2 years ago the amount of guys i saw showing up and pulling their "pinks" out to show off to the counter, that were in fact juvenile chinook was disgusting.
-
Kinda crazy you can’t fish for humpies in humpy hollow! Oh well, not far to area 9. Or a little further to 10 and you can keep 4. As always, just gotta adapt a little when it comes to salmon. Lots of opportunities out there.

The emergency rules is how.
If they open it eventually it’ll be in the emergency rules when they do.

The e-regs have not been updated yet:
Right. Low return aka no return to the Stilly last year so they close it. There are still a few pinks even on even number years.

They only run on odd years, No run last year!

Yes, that’s what I said… but there are always a few around even on even years. And there are pink runs that spawn in even number years too. Some of them don’t even go to the rivers to spawn.
This is why 8-2 was closed to pink harvest last year. Low return numbers. It’s a technicality more than anything. When the e-Regs update 7/1, they’ll show this years rules.

The snohomish has a small run of even year pinks.
-
Too bad they don't have sonar counting on the Stilly like the Kenai, it's hard to imagine the mess of fish right out from Mukilteo are almost exclusively going to the Skagit.
With the tickets they will write in 8-2 this year, they could probably put one in.

It wasn’t closed for pinks last year. Just chinook and chums.
New eregs are up, closed for pinks this year.
Both sets of eregs are up on the wdfw website since the old regs are still live, but the new regs kick in Tuesday.

This is what I get for basing my assumption of the rules off the posts in here instead of looking for myself.

:chuckle: yeah, think some were looking at the regs from different years.
Hope you are well Jackelope!
