Title: Primer 157 vs 209
Post by: MeepDog on June 29, 2025, 10:38:09 AM
I acquired 2 boxes of shotgun primers but they’re 157 and 57 size for Remington shotgun hulls. I’m brand new to muzz and just got my first, a .50 cal Rossi single shot that the internet says uses 209 primers. Are these acceptable or should they be banished to the shadow realm?

They are a smaller diameter than 209's. Toss em.

Yep.  Be hard pressed to find shot shells that accepted 157 size primers.

I've read of guys using an "appropriate" straw to act as a shim/bushing, but...............

I wouldn't mess with them for shotshells or muzzle loader designed for 209 size short of an apocalypse/EOTWAWKI.

The only surefire way to make them "safe" to dispose is by expending them.  I might be tempted to throw them in the bonfire.
