Title: Nosler vs Hornady
Post by: KDB on September 17, 2025, 05:18:56 PM: I currently shoot Nosler Trophy Grade 180 grain accubond in my 30-06 for elk. During the ammo shortage I picked up some Hornaday Precision Hunter 178 grain ELD-X. Anyone have any reason I should not switch to the Hornaday if it groups. I'm talking about a Max distance of 300 yards.

Post by: 10mmg on September 18, 2025, 11:26:52 AM: Both bullets work well for various uses on game. The ELDX is designed to come apart and create lots of wound channels. The Accubond is designed to stay together for deep penetration. At the distances you describe the main difference is the impart on edible meat. Assuming all factors being equal I would say you might experience greater meat loss with the ELDX than the Accubond. Not a guarantee but based on design intent that would be the big difference.

I don't think there is a wrong answer here.

Post by: jrebel on September 29, 2025, 07:01:28 AM: I’m super biased, but I won’t shoot an animal with an ELD-x ever again. I’ve had pretty bad experience / performance on bear and two moose. Between the two bullets you mention……the accubond is far superior.

Just curious. Aren’t accubonds and partitions mass produced? I use their factory seconds and love the partitions. I like accubonds too but they just won’t shoot good out of a couple rifles.

As far as original poster goes. Which ever shoots good out of the gun. They will both get the job done. Little bit different bullet performance but they will both drop animals. A lot of hate goes to eldx bullets but I have never seen one fail. Deer, elk, and bears all dropping. Probably at least seen 12 animals die very quickly from them.
