Someone last told me the river may be opened up for kings this year, anyone know if this is true? I can't remember the last time it was open and will need a refresher course on where and how. ;)
-
Sorry, no fish. Indians caught them all. Try again next century
-
The Sky is open for em
-
the sky is always open for them(last 5 years anyway, maybe more)...that doesn't mean you're going to catch them.
-
I believe the Skagit will open July 9th for kings. I think my buddy said it has been 19 years since it was last open. If I get my boat going I will drag it up for a shot at one of them big boys.

It should be a mad house. Picked up all the gear. I will be fishing it next Thursday. Went and ran the lower river yesterday. Saw several rolling.
-
Kind of a bummer that it is opening. I fish it every summer/fall for kings C&R. This year will be a mad house. Sure it will be nice to bring one home but I know all my favorite slots that I pull plugs through will be all piled up with boats. Sounds like alot of the guides from the Sky are getting booked up already for the Skagit. Since it is only open for retention Thursday at noon through Sunday. I will have to fish it on Monday thru Wednesday. Or just fish above gulligan creek. I am pretty sure it hasnt been open for retention since 1984.

Any tips on rigs and spots to hit firstlight?
-
I will be out on Friday in the new Alumaweld! Hogsniper, and a guy from work are in the boat so far. Backtrolling wrapped plugs, should work good Phool, drifting eggs will produce also. Finding a spot to fish may be tricky.....
-
I think it's going to be a learning (or re-learning) experience for most since it's been closed for so long. I was in high school the last time I fished for kings in the Skagit. :yike:
-
shouldn't be too difficult to figure out...the heads of deeper runs...
read the water, pull wrapped kwikfish, diver and spin-n-glo with some eggs or shrimp or mag wiggle warts in the normal king colors...chartreuse, maybe a little orange or blue??
seems to be the same methods everywhere, adjust for the size of the fish.
i think my sky kwikies are k15 and 20's maybe.
-
My buddy boated this on the CR openner. Hopefully I can catch one of similar size on the Skagit opener.
-
What did that fish weigh h2o?
-
NVM h2o it's a 40lb, saw it on a neither topic. Thanks
-
Dont go to big on the kwikies if the water is over 4ft vis. Somtimes I produce well on the k13s. I dont normally run wraps on my plugs especially when I am running on the smaller side. Smelly Jelly works well though. After running plugs through the holes a few times try back bounceing fresh roe with a spin n glow. Bait divers will also get em. They work well if you got a boat full of rookies. See ya at the BOAT SHOW!!!!! :chuckle:

If your going to use kwick fish use a sardine wrap. It will outfish the smelly gelly if wrapped correctly. If you have removed the front hook, wrap a larger piece to offset the weight. Fishing has started off slow so far. Saw many good guides on the river with not much luck. A fish here and there, but not worth the time spent at this point. The saltwater is producing a lot better.

Two Short trips, and an all day trip today. Total fish seen roll (1). Total fish seen caught (1). Total hits (0). 18 hours on the river so fair, its only gonna get better from here right! :o
-
4 Hours today at the Gardner bar = nothing for 3 rods. Fish checker said 0 today and 2 he heard of yesterday :dunno:
-
Did you see the stuck chevy on the bar?

Did you see the stuck chevy on the bar?
Did he get pulled off by a Ford?
-
Getting a late start today. Nothing the last two days and one roller last night. I have only heard of two fish. One 10 pounder at gardner and a 36 pounder above spud house. one on spoon and the other on kwickfish. And the Chevy was still stuck last night when I left.
-
Any new updates on the fishing? I couldn't make it out today. Planning on hitting it again next Thursday.
-
Nothing for me. I heard of 7 caught so far. Just got back from above the spud house.
-
I heard the netters only pulled out 12 last time.
-
Did you see the stuck chevy on the bar?
They had a pretty good sized hole dug when we were leaving. Didn't look like it helped much. I'm sure they got out at some point. Just not sure when or how...
-
Still pretty shady on the ol' Skag. Fished from 12 to dark today, kwickfish wrap and unrapped, and spinners above spud house. 10 to 15 boats nothing. Heard of one down on the north fork. Was hopping to give you guys a good report but not the case. Hopefully something buy the end of the weekend. Out to the salt for some crab and maybe a chinook tommorow.
-
I heard of a 26lb king that was caught on Friday, other than that not to much else going on. Still slow with a few fish being caught here and there. It hasn't been to hot, unless your using a net.
-
Didn't get out today, but will be out a bunch this weekend with the water getting its green tint back it should be some better fishing water. Good chunk of pinks showing and heard from some good sources that the NETS did very well with the kings last week and this with the dark water. Theres fish to be caught hopefully for the last weekend it will pick up a little.
-
Mt. Vernon salmon derby this weekend. Humpies and chinook are open.
-
Well no fish for me but then again it is my own fault. Thursday and friday morning were hot for the chinook and I missed it. Skumpies everywhere yesterday and today. Don't know what big fish was for the derby, best I heard was 28, try again tomorrow. Also got a good Jonas Skagit fishing text today.
