Looking for a little info as I drew this tag this year Aug 1-7. Has anyone drew t his tag and if so did they get a map from WDFW after drawing the tag? I drew a similar tag last year and received a map and gate codes for Weyerhauser land. If you have any good starting points I will take them. I plan on making a scouting run in the next week or two. Its part of the Ryderwwood GMU. Thanks

Somebody has to have hunted this area? I cant be alone. Come on help a guy out :'(

I had to look up the hunt in the regs, because I was caught off guard by the August dates.
Very Interesting - Master Hunter - any elk during the velvet
I have hunted the unit before, several times, but during muzzleloader (primarily) and a late season rifle cow tag I had 15 years ago or so.
I can give you some insight to the unit. It is a limited portion of the Ryderwood unit that is heavily bordered by farm land. They have a heavy volume of animals that hang near the farmers fields, which is the private land notation in the regulations. Many of the farmers aren't keen on giving permission, because they like to hunt it themselves. But the circumstances may be different for an August hunt.
The portion I normally hunt is owned by timber companies - Weyerhaueser and others. Most of the time the gates are closed, and walk in access only, but always worth checking all of the gates to see if there are any current timber sales/logging taking place. The area is riddled with 4 wheeler trails that are supposed to be closed, but can be some great walking if you are trying to make a hike from one portion of the unit to another. You can walk across the unit via these trails with fairly great ease.
I would think it would be tough calling in August, but I wish you good luck. I am happy to share more information, but most likely via PM. I tried to keep what I have said to common knowledge thus far as to not offend any of the locals, half of which are relatives. :chuckle:
Best of luck - get a hold of me if you are looking for more information

Ive hunted this unit for a long time your probably going to run into some fire closeur signs it rayonier timber now so i dont know if there as tight as the campbell group was and they would post it right before bear started if you can get in there there is a security guard you can call to get your elk out you just need to get him to the road i can pm you the number if ya need it he has helped me out a time or two there is some DNR stuff off king rd

PM sent
best of luck crunchy. neat tag. I would be surprised if you find a big bull in there, but lots of cows, rag horns, and spikes.
But hunting in August will change the circumstances significantly
