Just curious, anybody out there shoot one? Would love to get a new Alphamax 32 but hard time spending $1000 plus to get a new bow. Currently shoot a Hoyt Hypertech that is 9 years old, fast but 5 1/2" brace is pretty finicky. Watching ebay and such, can find some used and new vectrix for pretty good prices. Got drawn for a Peaches archery this fall and wife said to upgrade if I want,(I know, I should run as fast as I can to get the Alpha) so getting something soon would be good. If not, the old bow will get a chance at elk #5 in it's career. Also, is the Katera better than the vectrix? Vectrix has 7" brace and Katera has 6". Thanks.
-
Katera has different cams, which makes it a bit faster. I shoot a Vectrix and love it. Little on the heavy side but I think the little extra weight helps settle the pins more.
I bought mine last year and I think I paid $600 or so. Probably can find them a little cheaper now.
I made the mistake of picking up a Alpha max last week. It's about a pound lighter than the Vectrix and sure felt good.
-
Yeah, I haven't picked up and Alpha, probably shouldn't huh? Maybe I should just upgrade to a fall-away rest on my old trusty and then find an Alpha next winter or Spring when they are "outdated". thanks for the reply.

Like Kanooper said, the katera has a different cam design to allow for more speed. But, if you want virtually the same bow, look at the Hoyt Vulcan.
The Vulcan was put out the same year as the Vectrix, but was touted as there "Speed Bow", it also has a brace height of 6 inches. You can lay the Katera down on top of the Vulcan and the only difference that you'll notice is a change in the design of the cam giving it 5 fps...everything else is exactly the same.
What I'm getting at is that you could probably pick up a Vulcan a little cheaper than the Katera. I shoot a Vulcan and really like it. Hope that helps some.
-
I shoot a Vectrix, bought brand new. No complains what so ever. Shot the Vulcan, wasn't a big fan but to each their own.
Have killed two elk with mine, so I know it works. ;)
-
Run as far away from the Alpha as you possibly can. If you touch it you will buy it. I know from experience. :chuckle:

:yeah:
Same here, I shoot the Vulcan also and absolutely love it. You should find a Vulcan for about $400 and than put all st stuff on it you want. I shot the Katera and Vectrix not enough difference for the money.

If must have a Hoyt  and don't want to break the bank take a look at the new Turbohawk. MSRP is $599 with a $50 mail in rebate is what Hoyt is advertising on their web site. Weighs 3.75 lbs and IBO's at 320 I think. Nice rig for the money plus you get the warranty unlike buying an ebay bow.
-
Jbar, nice find. Might have to run to AS&J and check it out if he has one. Was hoping to keep the budget under $600 ready to shoot, but might be worth stretching things a little. The more I save on the bow, the more I get to spend on a tree stand or some clutch upgrades on the Msled.
-
yes to the Turbohawk go shoot one ..one thing to think about is if you buy a older bow you will be in the same boat 2 years from now wanting a new bow cuz your bow is heavy.
-
Looked at one today, nice bow, shop I was at was under the MSRP at 549 plus the 50 dollar rebate, though all of the hawk series bows apperently have that going right now. Didn't get to look long to compare but it looks like it has the Alphamax cam on it and laminated limbs.
-
Yes, same limbs and cams. Doesn't have the string suppressor. Hard to believe that is a $300 option.
-
I bought one new a couple years back and its a great bow. I ordered mine with the 80lbs draw weight, bottomed out its at 77 lbs. 29" draw length it shoots a 465 grain arrow at 290 fps. It is definitely a tack driver.
-
AS@J in Yakima has the Turbohawk for $579 cle elum. FYI
-
Well Cle Elum? Did you get one?? :dunno: If so how does it shoot?
-
I have one. A far shooting, not much differance between the vectrix and alpha max, other than wight. I finally did my upgrade from a 97 Martin Fury to the Vectix it was a great move, althogh before the Fury it was a Martin Couger speedflight and I do think back sometimes on how many animals I killed with a slow and very forgiving bow. All that said, the Alpha Max is their flagship bow this year and that means it has the flagship price :o Like others stated the Superhawk or Powerhawk would be worth a look, I think both even come ready to shoot. Good luck, Its almost as bad as upgrading a cellphone there is always one better next year :bash:

Picked up the Turbo Hawk. Fast, quiet, very little vibration. Having a little trouble getting good arrow flight out of the biscuit. Can't put 3 arrows into the same spot at 20. Have tried moving things around. Going to check with the shop and see if they think the Carbon Express CX300's are a stiff enough shaft for this bow set at 66 lbs, 29" with 100 grain muzzy heads. Need to dial in a good flight, no fish tail or cork-screw and get the sights set so I can get to some serious practice. Just under 6 weeks till the elk opener.
-
Congrats CleElum! Never had much luck with a Hoyt and a Biscuit, never could get my Vectrix to shoot good with one. Switched it over to a TT fall away and I was in the money. Did AS& J hook you up?
-
Did you buy the right size biscuit?
-

Brandon from As&J will take good care of you!!! This is where I got my Vulcan. He is honest and know his stuff!!!!
-
SS if you're asking me about the WB size, yes I did. Not sure what the problem was ( probably me ).
-
Yes, Brandon at AS&J set me up. Looks to be the right biscuit. Gonna check my arrow spline stiffness and make sure.
-
Let us know how it turns out! I'm actually going to be in Yakima this weekend, I might try to drop in and check out AS&J.
-
Nice shop, better than Hooked on Toys in Wenatchee at least. Buddy thinks my bad groupings may be due to Helical fletching instead of straight with the biscuit. Going down to AS&J tomorrow and see if we can diagnos things. Have to work Saturday at the Fire house and with it being Seafair, hoping I get some overtime on Sunday and get some more play money. Debating a pop-up blind vs a tree stand for elk this year.
-
I have some friends that clean up on elk with a bow using tree stands in the early season. Out of five guys they got 3 cows and a 6x6 with a bow. Although I see on tv pop up blinds are used to good effect. That's also on private property and the blind has been there awhile, so I don't know if a blind all of a sudden somewhere would spook the elk :dunno:
-
i love my vectrix xl! it is a bit heavy though if you plan on doing alot of hiking.shoots like a dream
-
picked up an alpha max around the first of the year and the bow is flat awesome. highly recommend it to any one
