Title: Fish Sonar/GPS
Post by: WCTaxidermy on July 17, 2009, 08:27:51 PM
Hi all,  I just bought a boat and the Fish finder in it is good but I would like to update.  Any ideas on what I should get.  Also what are your thoughts on the dual finder/gps systems.

My brother was up last week with his thunder jet and he had a GPS in it and I got to play with it.  It was unbelievable what information on Lake Roosevelt it had.  It had everything on it. Just wanted to get your ideas before I went and bought anything.  Thanks in advance.  John

I use Garmin in my boat but work with all the major brands. Raymarine makes some nice gear as well but will run you a little more. Let me know which way you decide to go and I may be able to save you some money ;)

John

Get the GPS unit best investment I ever made.

There are some good ones out there
hummingbird sidefinder
Lowarance

It just depends on how much money you want to spend, when you get it in let me know and I will try and get over to Banks for a day trip and show you around.

I only run Garmin or Lowrance for small boats and Furuno for larger.

Get a color unit if you can afford it.  You can see exactly what the bottom makeup is with one.  If you have room for it in your budget, a side imaging unit is definitely the way to go.  Having atleast one unit with a gps unit on your boat is a great idea.

Wouldn't go on the water without one for sure.  Foggy days atleast you can track you old lines back, channels lines, buoys, whatever you utilize a GPS makes life so much easier and more efficient....
