Any of you out there fans of 35 caliber rifles? 35 whelen? .358 win? others?
Which do you like and why? What's your pet load for it?
Thanks,
Kurt

I have a rifle in .35 Remington. With any luck I'll be using it on Bambi this fall. It likes the Core-Lokt better than the Federal Power Shock ammo. Those are the only types I've used so far.
It's funny. Whenever I ask for it at stores, people always make a comment about it. Older guys usually smile and say something positive, the younger guys look at me with a no one uses that anymore look.
As far as reloading, I haven't gotten into that yet.

I keep a Rem 760 in 35Rem (200gr Rem factory loads) back at my dads in WI incase I decide to go back for a hunt. I built a 35Whelen on a Rem 721 about 20yrs ago for Bear and Elk, and load it with 250gr Hornady RN's. Used to have a 358 Norma Mag on a 1903 Springfield action, beautiful wood. Around 1980 someone offerred me more than I could refuse, missed having a 35 so that's when I built the Whelen.

I have always thought about a .35 Whelen. Very good caliber, for elk, bear, moose, etc... Just other calibers, that work just as well, that I always come across first.

35 Whelen:
250g Hornady RN over 55grains of RL15 gives one hole accuracy at 100 yards & can hold 4 inches at 300. So far I’ve only shot paper with it but I’m sure it would do the trick on bear, elk, moose, cape buffalo …

I've seen two muleys and a big bull elk shot with a .358 Win... all went straight down... and you could see the dust go flying off their hides when that bullet hit.
I have a pre-64 model 88 that will need a new pipe one of these days... the .358 is on the top of the potential rechamber list.

I wouldn't call myself a fan, but 35 Whelen and .358 Win certainly make sense if you're shooting something over 500lbs.
Good bullet choices and efficient cartridges and plenty of willing donor actions for a guy that wants to spec out a custom.

I've got a 358 STW built on a FN action with a 25" Silen tube. I hunted with and shot it alot for a couple of years but sorta lost intrest in the big 35. I'm shooting a 250gr nosler partition at 2550FPS with H-4831. I think the biggest problem with the 35 Cal is the lack of good bullets for it. I havent payed much attention to the 35 Cal bullet line up for a couple of years, maybee theres something new out there. I've got a 7mm bbl blank that I've been thinking about haveing chambered for a 7STW and screwed onto this action.

I've got a 350 Rem Mag and love it. Only shot one deer with it. Hope to take a bear and /or an elk with it this year.

You Bet!
Some place around here there is the fore runner of the new Remington Guide gun.
Remington 600 in 350 Manglem. (This is before they made the Barrel longer to soften the recoil and cut some of the noise on the new "Girlie" gun) LOL Has tipped over an Elk or two.
Shot one a few years ago and the guy I was hunting above was reading the paper in his front room came up to see just what I was shootin. he was over a half a mile away and found a 6 point resting in the road.
Looks like it could have been made by Mattel

Building a 22" 35 Whelen AI on Chas. Daly Mauser Mk X receiver. Will start with 225 SMK and go from there.
