Title: 338 Federal
Post by: Missing on August 04, 2009, 07:00:07 PM
I recently purchased a 338 Federal TC prohunter barrel, what I have been reading is it is a 300 yd elk round and from what I see the ballistics somewhat support that claim. does anyone have any experience with this cartridge? I am thinking about using it for bear season.

Have just read about it, should do the job well enough.  Take it and enjoy your hunt!

That round is bad azzed bear medicine.  I really want a rifle in that caliber.  When it first came out, they took it to Africa for plains game.  It knocked everything flat that it hit.  Even a big Kudu dropped in his tracks at 200 yards.  I would not hesitate to use it for elk.  As with all hunting firearms, practice is the key.
