I recently purchased a 338 Federal TC prohunter barrel, what I have been reading is it is a 300 yd elk round and from what I see the ballistics somewhat support that claim. does anyone have any experience with this cartridge? I am thinking about using it for bear season.

Have just read about it, should do the job well enough. Take it and enjoy your hunt!

That round is bad azzed bear medicine. I really want a rifle in that caliber. When it first came out, they took it to Africa for plains game. It knocked everything flat that it hit. Even a big Kudu dropped in his tracks at 200 yards. I would not hesitate to use it for elk. As with all hunting firearms, practice is the key.

Thanks for the comments guy's, this is a very nice shooter comfortable and accurate. I will let the lead fly if I get the chance and let you know how it does.

That should be fine 300 and under I would push the 185 TSX and bust shoulders if I was you.
