Title: Have a archery bull tag for for 340-342
Post by: BOHNTR on August 10, 2009, 08:21:35 PM
I live over here in the Blue mountain foothills, but got drawn for 340-342.
have been up scouting and have seen some cows and spikes, but would really like to get a branch bull. Any ideas on which of the two units is better for bulls, and any areas to check out, as I am heading back over there again this week end.
If any one needs any info for the Blues for elk, deer or Turkey would be willing to swap info.

The one thing I can tell you is that 340 will have a ton of archery hunters in there for the general season, which I'm pretty sure is at the same time as your permit hunt, correct?  GMU 342 does not have a general archery season so if it was me I would concentrate my efforts there.

I was thinking along the same lines myself Bobcat, but in reviewing the harvest reports on WDFW site, the harvest stats don't show as much success as 340.
Is 342 a good early archery unit, or is it better for the other user groups ?.
As I am not familiar with either unit......I guess it will be trial by fire and boot leather.

This year 342 isopen for archery deer as well, there's a few bulls in there , no doubt there will be less preasure than 340 , it all seems to change in 340 once the hunting starts a lot more guys come into your calls . still 340 has a better number of elk. I'll be checking 342 out for a shooter since I have your tag aswell. remember elk like those northslopes and few people consintrate there and you'll be into elk . good luck .
