Title: Anyone doing Sunday's salmon derby?
Post by: MuleySniper on August 13, 2009, 10:13:46 AM
I plan on entering Sunday's derby down in area 11 and 13. Ive never entered one before Ive always kinda thought of them as bad luck. Times Ive been out without a ticket and have wished I had entered :chuckle: So this time I think I'll give it a try since we've been having pretty good luck out there this year with some nice sized fish. Anyone else gonna be out?

Its a fundraiser for a local gal that needs a heart transplant. Im not sure who is putting it on. There is an official flyer down at the Pt. Defiance boathouse. That is where the weigh ins will be too.

I ended up taking a buddy and his nephew out with me this morning. Wouldn't ya know it. I pass my rod to my buddy for not even 10 seconds so I could tie him up a new leader and wham! That sucker ended up landing the third place winner on my rod :P Pretty cool, only his second time salmon fishing and I put him on his biggest king. First place fish was around 22, second was 19 and his was 17.

Yeah it was exciting since we only saw maybe three other fish caught for about 75 boats where we were fishing. From the Narrows Bridge all the way to the Slag Pile, there were probably at least 150 boats out. There were seventy something entries in the derby so third wasn't too shabby. I did see another 23# come in, but the guy didn't have a ticket.
