Title: bonus time... sweet!
Post by: EastWaViking on August 13, 2009, 08:20:30 PM: I got a call from my hunting buddy who got drawn for a master hunter early elk tag. He gets to go elk hunting this weekend for any elk.... and I get to go with him to pack! It will be a marathon... work tomorrow, drive across the state, hunt Saturday, and drive back Sat. night, hopefully with elk blood on my clothes.

It's like opening a Christmas present a couple weeks early. :IBCOOL:

Anybody else get one of these tags, I guess there were several master hunter tags given out? Somewhere over by Centralia.

that stinks! I guess everything was closed until he got a call and they said they are opening it up for two days this weekend.

Most of the landowners do not care for master hunters??? But they are all comlaining of the crop and fence damage---go figure!!!
If you promise a land owner that you will only shoot a cow--they may grant you permission.
Hope it works out for him.

I called both and spoke with the wife of one of the landowners. I explained to her my situation and she told me about the stupid elk and their causing so much damage to their crops. I told her that I would love to take care of one of those elk. she said she would have her husband call me. I waited two days and he didnt call so I called him back and left a message with my phone number etc. He never returned my call. The other land owner was very nice. He told me that he had already given someone else permission to hunt his land and didnt want to mess things up with that person and explained he didnt have a huge piece of land. I thanked him for calling me back and that I understood. And that was the end of my hunt.

If they are not opening it up and are claiming damage...the WDFW will disallow the claim.

If they do open it, the master hunters will have motorized access to some areas that are normally open to foot traffic only.
It is not a open ended permit.

Yes it was Boistfort B that I drew. I dont know what the Dec hunt is like.

Ya I had my eye on one of them. Guess I will hope he's around next year.

Post by: wannahunt on August 15, 2009, 10:42:02 AM: I got a call on Wednesday for a MH hunt near Randle. I hunted Thursday evening and Friday but no elk on the one farm I was allowed to hunt. Two others that had permission to hunt before me got cows and the two that hunted after them ddin't see any elk either so I guess they went somewere else for food. I'm going back this afternoon to see if they have found their way back but with limited pressure around they are probably content wereever they went to. It's a pretty tough farm to hunt because of the houses around it. Really limits shot opertuinities. Oh well the farmer got what he wanted anyway. He is being very helpful and really appriciates the MHers coming in. Hopefully I have some pictures tomorrow.

Great country, we saw elk, couldn't get off the bike in time for a shot, jumped others. I know he will get one tomorrow...and I will be doing yard work. :bash:

Short story, a cow came out to a clear cut and he shot it. Was able to have the gate opened for him and drive to it.

Here is one of us biking in, what a great way to get around, I felt weird wearing orange. My hunting partner will have to post the elk pic if he wants to. It doesn't seem right to post a pic of somebody else's kill.
