Title: Scouting Rimrock this weekend
Post by: gasman on August 16, 2009, 03:27:58 PM
I spent the weekend scouting Rimrock. Gt in to a herd sat morning, as i watched a spike abot 70 yards away, i heard the what i thought was a cow walking around the repods, well i thugh tit was a cow untill i heard the sound of branches rubbing and breaking as he walked through the trees. the wind started swirling on me and they caught my scent and left the area. I did noy follow i did not want to push them. when the herd left they left a few behind, so as the straglers were following t catch up i came fece to face with a nice spike. Big body with about 26" spikes in velvet.

That was all i see for elk for the weekend but have found some areas that i wuld suspect they would retreat to when the hunting pressure rises (thanks rasbo for the tip).

Most of the area was still closed down from the Discovery Fire and i could not get to where i wanted to, O'well, thats life. I hope they have it back open before the holiday weekend. i could not even access any of the god jeep trails.

Woke up this morning to the sound of yotes howling, grabed my gun and tryed to find them in my underwear  :yike: It was funny, no shoes or socks, just a T-shirt and my shorts..........  :chuckle:

All in all it was a good weekend

They're more likely to be in the woods than in your underwear.  Just sayin'. :P

Haha!!  Maybe the GASman had chili for dinner and the "howling" he heard had nothing to do with coyotes. :yike:

Just messing with you gasman.  Are you going to be up in Rimrock again this weekend?  Me and my brothers will be riding the dualsports around in the Nile on Saturday morning to nail down for sure where we are going to set up camp for Sept 12-20.  You bought the WR, right?  We went with a couple of KLXs and one XT for the vertically challenged one in our group.

Hey gasman.  Could you give me a report from Clover springs.  I sent a freind of mine that way.  She has a bull tag and I sent her out to scout some spots between clover and Lindsey camp.  Thanks.
