I found these guys today in Puyallup right off River Road across the road from the river. Was locating a sewer pipe for engineering design and I saw this bird fly and it caught my attention. I usually do not see them this far north. They were actively feeding chasing down all kinds of Bumble Bees and other insects. They put on a pretty good show. The one picture you can see it staring down the bug flying there. Enjoy.

thats unreal... they're soooooo far from home it's not even funny. wonder if the heat wave had somethin to do with it? the one is only a few months old. reminds me of when they caught that marlin off the coast a few years ago... wow. go buy a lotto ticket asap!

Thanks man! I think that I have only seen these guys a hand full of times my entire life. The adult birds are very beautiful. I have seen them down towards Yelm a few times. :dunno:
-
looks like a scrub jay...I dont think there are blue jays out here
-
Better get out your bird book! :dunno:
-
it's a true blue... the beak is a dead give-a-way. very rare indeed!
-
You nailed it Rasbo.........

heres a true blue,I would love to see one,got to go east of the rockies

ouch! no doubt, just googled it... never even knew there was a difference. solid work rasbo!
-
Regardless they are very beautiful birds regardless of species. I wish I had them nesting on my property.

Maybe the first pic is the adult and the others are the juvenile? :dunno:

Rasbo bet me to the punch. True blues have a crest on their head like a stellar or cardinal.
-
Believe it's a juvenile Pinyon Jay, they typically range into Central Oregon, could easily stray this far north.
-
Been trying to decide if they are scrub jays or pinyon jays....the ones I've been seeing really look like scrub jays we have had a bunch down here in Elma...first time I've ever seen them, but they have been around since spring.

They're a headache in iowa- they always scold you and give away locations. They also scold the deer though...

Definitely a juvie, though could be Scrub or Pinyon. With all the weird weather lately the birds have been moving into new areas a lot. I've been seeing Lincoln's sparrows all over the Coast here, a Green Tailed Towhee and a few other's I haven't seen in this area.

I live in Selah Wa and have seen some here for the past month. But like others said they are Scrub Jays
